I suppose putting things into perspective even though for only a brief period, while I was warming up I did see a wonderful galaxy (M31 and M32), a lovely double cluster (the double cluster), a fab globular cluster (M15) and a planetary nebula (M57) so not all bad.

Well, the moons started to come up now, great night with the new Maxvision 24", M57 looked good, M27 for the first time in my scope, was suprised how big it is & the best view tonight was Uranus for the first time  , very small but very distinct green disc (my girlfriend put me to shame by seeing it first). Had a quick look for Neptune but as the moon was rising we called it a night. Best nights observing for a long time. We also saw over half dozen meteors around Cygnus between 23.00 & 23.30, no meteor showers this time of year that I know off.

I sat outside for a bit watched it getting dark, having drink with missus discussing scopes and other things, but the skies were just not clear enough, intermittent clouds and transparency was poor. I do like my sessions of naked eye observing too while having a brew sitting outside, but miss looking through a scope with proper views, but apart from one night of lunar earlier in the week the weather just has not played ball whatsoever for me to warrant even getting the scope out.  Quite a few nights where I think it may be clear enough, you go out and find too much thin cloud around, very high humidity this week too. Perhaps October will be better

Sorry everyone, especially those in the Westcountry, but it's my fault.  I splashed out 3 weeks ago and bought I lovely ROR obsy from Ian KIng.  Dave & Cliff worked like Trojans a couple of weeks ago and installed it.  To cap off the expense, I went for broke and upgraded my camera to an Atik 460EX from the Steve at FLO withe EFW2 and Baader LRGB and NB filters.  I'm a very lucky boy.  Of course, since then it's been nothing but murky and overcast in Devon with pretty much 100% cloud cover.  I managed to polar align and get a few subs of M31 for first light a week ago, but that's it.  The weather gods have jinxed the new purchases!

I had a great night yesterday with a cracking clear sky - beautiful Milky Way. Tonight is also looking promising. My 2 new starguiders have arrived so Im itching to get out & try them. . Hoping for a significant improvement over my current plossl's - will start with the ring nebula and take it from there

can highly recommend the starguiders   - what a difference ! A bit of coma but hey its a big (ish) dob . Will have to tweek to collimation but apart from that they were brilliant. Another great night here for a change  Cygnus rift clearly visible and can barely make out the milky way constellations as so many stars. Auriga fully up now, but my eyes have had enough after an hour ! Hopefully more tomorrow.
