I've been lurking for a while and thought it be a good time I introduce myself.....

I've been a photographer for 30+ years and only recently caught the highly contagious astto bug. By day i'm a SCADA / RTS / Instrumentation specialist and I also own a carbon fibre photographic support business.

After reading reams of fora posts / product review, I decided to get a 190MN and NEQ6 (from FLO) with the primary intent of imaging and learning the sky.

As a photographer, I will be using dslrs and CSCs, namely Canon 5D2 and Fuji X-E1/X-Pro.

After some intial imaging sessions, I realised that a guide camera would be a neccesity and have since ordered a thin OAG and SSAG as a budget entry starter.

The sky learning curve seems pretty steep although the connectivity / imaging / processing side doesn't seem to daunting.

Initially, my stargazing will be done from my south facing back garden which has medium levels of light pollution to the E, W and N. The S looks straight into Southamption (about 5-6 miles away).

I aim to get my rig portable (mainly protected) within the next few weeks and have sourced a used Peli case for the NEQ6 and a Boschma trunk case for the 190MN. I'm now lookig at power sources and will probably go for a Lifepo battery.

The wealth of info, DIY and imaging on this forum has kept me busy for hours and very much forward to making some contribution in the future.

Hi Jake (?), thanks for the welcome and invite, I may venture out that way in the foreseeable future. At the moment, i'm hell bent on getting totally familar with my gear in a conttolled enviroment, so that it becomes second nature to set up and capture... I wish I had the space and audacity to plant a semi permanent pier in the garden to save time, alas my other half does not share my sentiments.

Anyhow, the forecast for tomorrow is clear skies round to 1am, so have a good session.

Hello, John and welcome to the SGL

I have the pleasure of seeing the Southampton light display to my North, at a similar distance.

No LP to the South, as that's where my house is !!!

Good luck with imaging and autoguiding, it will make such a difference when you have worked it out.

And I suggest you make sure the OH knows how much work woudl be saved if only you had a pier in the garden...

Gordon.
