Homemade stable mount

Building my own mount to put on the roof of my house.

Hi

May I ask what the silver thing is in pic 3 and 4

looks like a taper lock hub shaft (I bought 2 for my DIY super heavy duty DIY GEM mount) to mount the Dec and RA bars together

Well the 2 that I own have a 2" bore so to match the steel rod size (big and heavy) but I believe you can get bigger.

it's just a means to an end ie something that will grip a shaft and allow me to fix it to a platform that run perpendicular to the shaft

guessing that its not a hub shaft then

At a guess id say it could be from a Volvo or a Saab

Its a brake disc to a ford fiesta, the whole in it fits my skywatcher exact :-) just need to put a bult in it for the az adjustment

On closer inspection it looks similar but obviously different, this is what I was talking about

the battery in the centre of the bearing for scale is a standard AA

Looks like its working like i thought :-) now just some paint and last finish and its up on the roof to test it.

Now its done and up on the roof (just need to put some paint on the "platform" i built on the roof) got longer cables to all the stuff so i can control it all from my pc :-)

Just waiting for some clear skies so i can try it....

I have a "roof door" on my addic, so no problems getting on the roof to put on the tube :-)

Now i got it up on the roof got all the cables down to the pc. Had like 10 min clear skies then it started to snow again :-( well it just to put on the tube again its all set now :-) ( just need to paint the platform on the roof so it melts in more ) :-)
