A few high annoying high ribbon clouds last night but got my bins out to see M13 and M31 from the back garden for the first time since the winter

I looked outside at about 10pm to a wall of cloud last night and had pretty much given up but just before I went to bed about 11pm took one more look and the sky was completely clear. So much so that I went outside for quarter of an hour just to gaze up. Admittedly on the horizon in all directions there was an orange glow and the dew under my feet was hinting at a lot of mositure in the atmosphere but that apart it was actually a pretty good night last night to kick Septemebre off with. I'm tempted to get the scope out on Wednesday but I suspect we will be plagued with dew problems for a while to come so perhaps bins and coffee for an hour to ease myself back in this year.

Sorry Mike didn't pick up your message until this morning. To be honest I haven't taken the scope out of the wardrobe for this season yet but on a positive note i did suss out Claerwen in the summer so later on hopefully we can organise something there. It's a fair drag from here but i think a Friday or Saturday all nighter would be good. Out of interest it seemed to me the best spot was at the top of the damn on the far side. Is that where you set up?

Last night was absolutely stunning. I jumped into the farmers field accross the road from my house with my bins and just looked up for the best part of an hour last night. I'm going to have to find him and ask permission to take the scope there one day its just a perfect site wide open vistas and the difference in just 100yds from my back garden is amazing really. Still seeing quite a few shooting stars - are we through the perseids yet or are these just random events- saw 4 in about an hour I would guess?.

Steve I was out with the C11 last night as well and I agree the sky was crystal clear. Milky way over head clearly visible from my back garden here in Miskin. M27 really stood out as did M31 and a few globs. Think I counted at least 4 meteors as well all over in the east. Tired getting up for work this morning but worth it!

Unfortunately looks like we're heading into something of an observing desert here in S Wales for a while - time to do some maintenance on the scope for the new season perhaps - I'm contemplating taking the primary out and giving it its first bath since I bought it.
