Jupiter 19th September

Thought it was a bit early to try Jupiter at the moment but after seeing some great images here i decided to have a go with my humble 8" sct.

Up at the silly time of 4am but quite pleased with the result,

Had to up the gain way to high to achieve 30fps with my dbk21 so a bit noisy and still got the dreaded onion rings,

Things can only improve as we approach opposition.

Very nice image Martin!

Did you have gamma set to 100? I had those rings when I used gamma in the 90s but since using the default setting of 100 never seen them again.

I had gamma set to around 85. I will try 100 next time but was under the impression it gave a washed out image.

100 will be fine Martin as long as the histogram is 60-70% full.

Nice processing like it. Messing with gamma can cause onion skin effect on jupiter, Though i only ever got it by raising gamma. On the new 618 chip mono. lowering gamma did not cause onion skin. Why these differences i have no idea. Set at 100. with brightness at default. You will get no problem. Well worth shooting jupiter right about now. It will improve a lot. but good results will start to happen now for sure. As your nice result shows.

Really nice image, excellent colours but when you blow it up the onion starts to appear. You could always try de-ringing in registax?

Very good image indeed. Don't knock the humble 8" SCT, they are really nice scopes, especially for planetary imaging
