Hello. I am new to the astronomy game. Only purchased my first scope about 4 weeks ago. Have had a few adventures viewing (albeit in the back garden). Have had some great views of Jupiter, and an all nighter a couple of weeks back to wait for Saturn to appear above the trees. (well worth it mind). This is the but...bit. I live in Medway, Kent and am wondering if anyone knows of a good spot/site fairly local to travel to, to get a good view of the sky.

Any response would be most welcome, and thanks in advance.:D

Pretty good but nowhere near a truly dark sky.

I can pick out the brightest parts of the milky way on decent nights and have a good Eastern to South Eastern horizon. Light pollution is at its worst in the West.

I'll have a look around to see if there is anywhere suitable to set up. I know there are at least one or two others from our neck of the woods that may also want to set up somewhere dark AND secure.

Hello! I'm in Borough Green - the sky is not bad at all around here and there are plenty of quiet country lanes and farmers fields (with permission) and very quiet public spaces you could set up in.

Personally I'm a boring imager and don't venture further than my back garden.

Thanks everybody for your welcome messages. I went to the picnic spot at the top of bluebell hill last night (saturday). Had a good few hours, with great views all across the sky. You can follow the ecliptic line all the way from east to west (if you stayed all night of course). It wasn't too bad considering the lights from the towns below the hill. The most annoying thing was a couple of street lamps nearby just in the wrong spot. Anyway, those who know the area and the picnic site may be interested to know that it is worth a visit..
