I started astro imaging 12 Months ago. The more you learn however, the more you realise how complicated it is.

These images were taken with the following kit

Imaging scopes - WO Megrez 72, Skywatcher 200P

Guiding scopes- WO Zenithstar 66, Skywatcher Startravel 80

Guiding Cameras – Philips Webcam, QHY5

Imaging cameras- Canon 300D, Atik 314L+

Mount EQ6 GOTO

Guiding via PHD

Flats were taken on a PC screen but now with an EL panel. I need some opal Perspex for it though to increase the exposure times.

These were taken with the Canon 300d. This is the first “decent” Image I took

Then tried the Veil with the 300d & 72 Megrez. I struggled with vignetting with this combo

Thanks for the kind replies, it looks like I am on the right track :(

Like you say Olly, no one part of it is complicated, it’s just that there are so many parts to it! When I first started, I sent you a PM as my images had trails, you pointed me in the direction of guiding. I took your advice and bought an ST 80 guidescope. Huge thanks for your help.

Then came Steve’s book “Making Every Photon Count”and what a book! It explained everything to me. Steve, you say “I'd have been thrilled to bits if I had captured that Horsehead and Flame Nebula in my first year!” Well that’s how your book accelerated my learning curve :)

What more can I say other than to thank people for their help, especially Steve who has been instrumental in helping me.

I would like to wish everyone on SGL a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. … And clear skies

Best,

Pete
