I made a few telescopes about 50 years ago in England. Now I have a decent dark sky site, machine shop, optics shop under construction so it's time to start again

Thanks, I remember the English climate all too well. This is the land of clear skies and extreme changes- summer highs of 40C and winter lows of -20C, with a change of 25C as the sun goes down. Not the place for a thick plate glass mirror!

I know Tucson well, I lived near Tubac and could see both Kitt Peak and Mount Hopkins from my observing site. But darker skies here. The southwest is a great place to be an astronomer
