DarkV0!D
Hi my name is Michael and I'm new here. I have always been interested in sci-fi and the cosmos but only just recently started to dive deep into astronomy. I have a pair of 10x32 bino's that I use to stargaze. Although I plan to buy a a telescope as soon as I find a place that has dark skies unlike my current light polluted town. I can only see about 6-7 stars with the naked eye, but with binoculars I can see a few dozen. If anyone that lives in central NJ has a good spot please tell me! Well I guess that's it for now. Ags
Hi and welcome! Your light pollution sounds bad - I live in a city and still see 20 to 40 stars, so only seeing 7 is awful. I have bins similar to yours (8x42) and they can show quite a bit on good nights.

Doug
Hi MichaelA warm welcome to the SGL, as you have very bad light pollution when you buy a scope make sure it is not less then a 200mm or 8" aperture then and a light polution filter will help a lot when you stargaze at home DougEssex

Schorhr
Welcome! Even with some light polution, a telescope gives amazing views of planets and moon :-)I have similar troubles, so I now get a telescope that'll fit into a backpack. Best way to go :-)
