  1. 0.06"! That's half an hour's worth here. The reason Devon is so green. 😄
  2. Frost is not the only cause of ground heave. Rainfall on clay can be enough. Chopping down trees can create the same effect as the volume of water transpired is changed. It's all about local conditions and how they change.
  3. 10% of the UK crop of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. I've passed the place many times and it does seem odd for them to waste so much energy in this fashion, although they are a net exporter of energy. Edit: The blinds they are supposed to use must be breaking down as they did claim to only have 2% gaps for ventilation purposes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanet_Earth I'm looking forwards to taking my kit for southerly views from Ramsgate, a compensation for having to go there in the first place.
  4. If it's for one-off positional input, it's a bit of a waste. Just enter the numbers manually from your info of choice - mobile phone etc.
  5. I'm not aware of any GPS receiver device that can keep track of it's own location when turned off or not able to receive GPS signals - if that's what you mean by 'put away'. Leave a receiver off for a while and it has to re-establish which satellites it can now 'see' prior to calculating it's own location. The GPS satellites are not geo-stationary, so any receiver changes which satellites are being used over time.
  6. Hi John, a couple of questions. What is your definition of lightweight? I'm using my FC100-DC in that position on the basis that is looks closer to centre of system. Why will the mount perform less well in this position?
  7. I like him as an interviewer too. The Life Scientific is my regular listening walking to/from work.
  8. There's a bit of info here re meteoroid damage to the sun-shield. https://jwst.nasa.gov/content/observatory/sunshield.html
  9. There's certainly a lot out there on the web, but I like the idea of a library. A new section perhaps with one thread per target. Else all the replies etc will mix targets. Is there any kind of measure of difficulty? Magnitude perhaps, number of hops, degree of fuzziness.
  10. Just get more observation and learn how to find targets.
  11. Don't worry, I sure the weather will improve. Then mine arrive!
  12. I'm quite happy it was delayed until today. Newton's birthday.
  13. Yet they still get it wrong, including safety based issues requiring recalls. Fortunately astro gear is far less complex so the amount of testing reflects that. Not that this should excuse a rush to market with shoddy kit.
  14. I've a friend who has spent the last 10 years or so studying and working to get access to JWST data. I hope for their sake that launch etc is a success. A stressful time for many.
  15. I've been wondering about the origami working without gravity loads being the same as on earth. Can't test for that so easily.
  16. I think it won't fit inside a Falcon. It just fits the Ariane.
  17. The butterflies in my gut have butterflies in theirs!
  18. I'd not leave it standing up like that either. Tail up or down. 😀
  19. I can see them delaying at least a week. No idea if that means draining the fuel etc.
  20. Have a good break and hope to hear from you in the new year. Adrian
  21. I'm considering a Neewer bag packed with additional foam. A couple of other sizes are available.
  22. Only if you're uncomfortable. If you get on with it, then no reason to change.
  23. Tak make prisms, I wonder why not a RACI? It took me one night of use to decide to return the Tak 6x30 finder and get a RACI. Too awkward and annoying switching between scopes. 'Any fool can be uncomfortable.' came to mind.
  24. Some people do have great skills of imagination and knocking together a phrase or two for our enjoyment. Similarly imaginative, if a little more toilet/schoolboy humour, are ones for Veet hair removal and 'agent Picolax'.
