  1. I have the KonusSuper model of this in glorious orange. It's my only scope and it's going to a bortle 4 sky right now wit my SkyTee. I love it. Plan on getting a 10" reflector to compliment it in the future but in no rush. Great value for money, really opened the sky for me
  2. Just wishing you and your partner all the best. Sorry to hear that someone intruded on your life like that. Hard to comprehend the lack of comfort in ones self that was shown by that person. They really have some life adjustments to make. You just need to continue being you
  3. That's great, congrats. I can't believe Stellarium Plus sent me to the wrong constellation 🙃
  4. Haha, ah balls. Well that would explain my strained eye!
  5. I have me finder in correct spot, clouds just rolled in waiting for them to vamoosh
  6. Managed 250x myself on the moon tonight with 120 achro. First time this was really do-able for me. Just had to get used to some floaters. Corpenicus, the line of craters west of Plato, Promontorium Laplace casting shadows into Sinus Iridum and the massively bright rim of crater T. Mayer A. Absolutely beautiful night out
  7. That's amazing whatever the result turns out to be
  8. Using the Carbon star list from Astronomical league (I think). Checking out some in Lyra as back garden faces West. Mad how you can still observe Lyra in early Dec. T and HK Lyrae were both lovely. HK in particular had nice field. U Lyrae was too dim at 10th mag to really see. The moon was lovely but air was mushing about at even 40x. Nice way to spend an hour outside. Nice red stars in nice fields. Then in for a cuppa 🙂
  9. I never knew this practical definition, many thanks, I always thought Blue and Red was CA. Good to know!
  10. Many thanks for this, had an early evening hour of checking some of these out. SU and VX Andromedae Also SAO 109003 and Z both in Pisces. Perfect for quickies out the garden. Z Pisces was the most vivid colour-wise. SAO 109003 was the most difficult to detect colour. The two in Andromeda had lovely star fields. Will be using this list regularly. Cheers Muc
  11. That sketch of the Dumbbell! Wow, that's amazing!
  12. I went out to.my darker sky location last night. When I returned I left the Skytee set up in my garden as there was no rain forecast. Got up at half six and skies were still clear. Within five mins had the scope mounted and was seeing my first view of Leonard. The sky was on the turn to grey, the dimmer stars were close to not being seen in the finder. M3 was just visible in the 8x50. Half the finder field up I could just sense a hazy patch. Checked the main view at 40x and there it was. Easily seen, could just get the sense of a tail in the brightening sky. Nice placement just above Arcturus. 120mm achro. Gonna try keep regular view of it weather permitting. Nice start to the day 🙂
  13. Yeah in Waterford Magnus, I know I shouldn't really, just had one of those weeks in work and a bit of comet hunting would do the head a lot of good. I realise now that is actually probably a mean speed if 30kmph with gusts may be higher. I assumed astro scopes doesn't adhere to the yellow warnings. I don't have a shorter scope unfortunately Robert, although I do have a cheapo 60mm spotting scope.....hmmmm. I have the Skytee which does seem like a solid lump. Scarp15 a rocking 14"! Haha, I can feel my heart starting to climb up my throat just reading that!
  14. Have you ever observed with a medium or large telescope in a strong enough wind? It's predicting clear enough skies in the wee hours of the morn. I'm debating driving 20 mins with 120/1000 refractor to try for Comet Leonard even though there's the last quarter moon. But it's given 30mph winds... Is that madness? 🤔
  15. I've made a very rough cardboard mask of about 90mm for my 120mm f/8.3 achromat. But it's all damp and annoying to use. Would be willing to hand over cash to someone who could 3d print one or two simple masks based on the dust cover. I honestly thought they would be something widely available
  16. Great read this 👍 I'm just in from a little post work session and I would have to say going from a meh 6x30 finder to 50mm RACI, Stellarium on the phone and a decent stable mount that removes the wobbles (Skytee). Star hopping has become so enjoyable. Sometimes easy, sometimes challenging but always enjoyable. Also on a more abstract tip, being a few years older and being content so time under the sky is satisfying whether you see what you wanted or not.
  17. Same here, it's been the longest cloudy stretch in quiet a while for me. Trying to console myself with how mild and still it is
  18. Mostly in my bottle 6 garden for hour long peeks. But I'm lucky that I can throw a 120mm acrho and Skytee in the car and go to a bottle 4-ish spot on the coast or river estuary within 25mins. Nice eastern and southern skies. It's enough of a difference to allow me to see M33 which is not possible from the garden. I might make that trip once a month. I like the two options
  19. Caught it on and off in 120mm achromat. Really showed me the value of patiently waiting for the seeing to come and go. Seeing it leave the disc of Jupiter was amazing, thanks for the heads up!
  20. I will give this a go in a 120mm achromat, many thanks for the info
  21. Amazing, never seen any owl before myself
  22. Yeah man, some stunning coastline down here. And mountains to the sea
