  1. If any of the thread is visible try the tiniest drop of WD40 on the end of a tooth pick and apply it to the thread, avoiding getting it in the grub screw head, leave to soak for an hour. Are you using the best fit allen key you have, they do vary. Mine was tight, and the key was starting to bend, but it did let go with a bit of a click, but it was not so tight I thought it would shred the grub screw head. There were no traces of glue in mine, although FLO do mention that might be the case on their page for the kit. Good luck!
  2. Has anybody got these dimensions please? I Have searched all over but cannot find the truth!
  3. Put a meter long stick in the ground between where your southern tripod legs would go, stand by it at True Solar Noon , mark the spot to the north where the shadow of the stick is at noon. Draw a line on your paving or such, now you have a permenant true North/South line. Bin the compass 😉
  4. The Gnu Song Flanders and Swann A year ago, last Thursday, I was strolling in the zoo, When I met a man who thought he knew the lot. He was laying down the law about the habits of baboons, And the number of quills a porcupine has got. So I asked him, "What's that creature there?" He answered, "Oh it's a h-elk." I might have gone on thinking that was true, If the animal in question hadn't put that chap to shame, When it remarked, "I hain't a h-elk! I'm a g-nu! I'm a g-nu, I'm a g-nu, The g-nicest work of g-nature in the zoo. I'm a g-nu, how d'you do? You really ought to k-now W-ho's W-ho! I'm a g-nu, spelled G N U, I'm g-not a camel or a kangaroo, So let me introduce, I'm g-neither man or moose, Oh g-no g-no g-no, I'm a g-nu!" 🤦‍♂️
  5. I have the SW Evostar 80 ED, I use a Canon EOS 500D, the focus tube is out 46mm. Then a T adapter, T Ring, Camera. I have to go out to 72mm with a 2x barlow in that trail. Back focus in this camera is about 46mm Different camera, but it does all add up. ~ 180mm altogether. This was last used on NGC2903 at 33 million light years away, so pretty much set at infinity 😉
  6. How difficult or easy is it to do this remote imaging? I already have experience taking deep sky from home, but neighbours with lights are spoiling it. Thanks for any insight.
  7. I'm not sure you really want to see this, I think your mind is not made up 😉 I can't find anything either! 🤔 On Rotton Tomatoes it just says not released yet. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_hunt_for_planet_b Will keep looking..
  8. Plate solving? http://www.astrogb.com/astrogb/All_Sky_Plate_Solver.html
  9. Another version. Courtesy of NASA/SDO and the AIA, EVE, and HMI science teams.
  10. I have found this as well, and learned not to bother.
  11. I used to show people that you could light a cigarette with a scope in seconds, I hoped they remembered what that might do if....
  12. Just did my first ever plate solving, using All Sky Plate Solver, it was spot on in 80 seconds (Old Dell Inspiron). I was amazed at what this can do 😲 I have had APT for years, but just thought Plate Solving ...nah, too difficult, what's that, but it's a doddle. So I suppose the thing to do is use an image from the guide camera to figure out if I am on target with the target that I can't see. I often waste a lot of time getting something centred in the frame.
  13. I can't see that you say what ISO setting your using? I'm in a Bortle 8 sky, and use ISO 400 or 800 and have got good results with an ST80 at 60s 120s and above, give it a go! You could try GradientXterminator on that to even out the background.
  14. Tycho and Clavious ETX 105 mak/cass f14, Zwo Asi 120mm mini + IR blocking filter, AVX Mount. 10% of 1000 frames stacked in Autostakkert 3.
  15. Copernicus 22/04/21 ETX 105 f14, Zwo Asi 120mm mini. AVX Mount 10% of 500 frames stacked in Autostakkert 3. Trying different stacking percentages. Also trying not to overcook it. (Sherpen it more!! You know you want to!)
  16. Aristarchus and region. ETX 105mm at f14, Asi 120mm at prime, IR blocking filter. AVX Mount. 20% of 500 frames stacked in Autostakkert 3 Diassapointed in this, but very turbulant atmosphere is my best excuse 🙄
  17. Sometimes mine takes yonks to arrive where they are supposed to be, maybe your hd is busy?
  18. ETX 105 105mm f14 Mak/Cass OTA on AVX Mount. Zwo ASI120mm + IR Blocking filter Wide field views are with the Scopetronix 0.5 field reducer + an Atik 0.5 focal reducer. 200 frames each stacked at 70% in Autostakkert 3. I am not sure it makes a lot of difference if I stack at 20% or 70% ?
  19. Remove the safety bolts, and you can now slide the dovetail bar forward.
  20. Also put a photo thread bolt into one of the dovetail threaded holes from underneath, which on the AVX mount conveniently fits into a recess in the head in just the right place, so that is now the added safety. I don't know if there is similar on an EQ mount.
  21. Had this on my AVX, removed the two lower safety bolts in the dovtail, they are not threaded into the rings. Slide the bar up the mount as far as the you can go whilst still getting grip on the lower securing bolt. Balanced now with a DSLR on the back, electric focuser motor, and the heavy 9x50 finder. Also, ordered a longer bar.
