  1. Most thumb screws on telescopes and accessories are either M2, M3 or M4 in my experience.
  2. If you are planning to do AP in the future then EQ is more accurate, if you are going to stick with visual then IMO AZ is much more convenient.
  3. Welcome to SGL, I am sure you will meet up with other like minded astronomers.

    Hi all!

    Hi and welcome to SGL.
  5. After searching for the answer I found that using the menu and option buttons I was able to enter my location, all I need now is a clear night 🙄
  6. I built my own wooden platform trolley to the exact size for my Dob and it has proved to be very satisfactory. The use of decent wheels with locking brakes make it very secure and stable.
  7. I am not using the GPS module so it shouldn’t be that causing the problem. If I can explain the problem more clearly, when switching on the mount I press align then starsense auto then enter, then press enter again to edit the information. I can change the time and date but when I get to zone to check my location it doesn’t let me make any further actions with any button. Hope I made myself more clear.
  8. I thought it was 25 posts and 30 days membership, in which case you could place an ad now. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  9. Yes you are correct the only difference is the adapter which enables the connection to the Skywatcher mounts. I am not using the adapter so in theory it should work with my Celestron mount.
  10. I have not used my Starsense for about a year so I decided to set it up on a different scope and set the relevant info. Not sure if it is because I was using it with a Skywatcher mount and am now using on a Celestron mount but I can't get past the time and date settings. When it comes to the Zone setting I can change it to all the corners of the earth but when I press the Option button to enter my long and lat position Nothing happens. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

    Hello All!

Hi Jeff, welcome back to SGL.
  12. Don’t forget most castors can be locking so it shouldn’t be a problem.
  13. Just a thought, my platform trolley is about 120/130mm high which is very comfortable to use so if you built a platform trolley the same height as your step 190mm for use outside and a low trolley which could be used to wheel on to the outside trolley and locked into place for transporting to your viewing site. Food for thought maybe ?
  14. As you are only interested in visual astronomy my advice would be to use an AZ mount that has slow motion controls which makes viewing much easier IMO. I have tried most methods and my favourite scopes for easy viewing are my200P Dob and my Skywatcher ST120 on a AZ5 Mount with stainless steel tripod. Good luck with your quest.

Hi and welcome back to SGL.
  16. Welcome to SGL. Another way to reduce the shakes is to fit a motor focuser so you don’t have to touch your mount.
  17. Hi and welcome to SGL.
  18. If you are not interested in AP then you could buy a very sturdy AZ mount for much less.
