  1. I would have to agree with all those who said "if you go dob go big!" Mine is an 8" ota which I first though was big. Now I wish I had gone 10" or twelve.
  2. Great image. Never been able to find the tiny new moon with my eyes.
  3. Kind of sounds like some crazy rock band of the God's! This morning I planned on a quick session of viewing the three in the morning twilight. Jupiter and Mars have finally risen above the Cyprus trees I consider, untouchable. Venus was barely above the wall of my observatory. Both Jupiter and Venus were so brilliant that the diffraction spikes were huge! Three moons were easily seen with Jupiter along with the main equatorial bands. Occasionally for just a moment I could glimpse some more banding. Mars was a bright red dot with my 3x Barlow and 23mm eyepiece. Only down side is the mosquitoes are also making their return.
  4. I like to believe I'll go on forever, but, truth is I'm growing old. So, excuse me for being selfish! I want all three, plus first contact. (Friendly ETs of course!)
  5. Went out at 12:00 and we were having a storm! But it was the type with clouds and over an inch of rain! Said a few comments I can't repeat here and went back to bed! Glad I set the camera up in the observatory planning on just rolling the roof open later when the time was right. Hope someone got lucky!
  6. It is now on the pop ups when you go to Google. I'm hoping to be out at 12:00 or 12:30. Have to work tomorrow so I would be up at 2am any way.
  7. Excellent images! I'm up every morning at those hours!
  8. Am I understanding you correctly? That's with your phone? If it is, I'm going to find a secluded place, and cry!
  9. Guess we can do like Mad Max and booby trap our cars, and kits!😁
  10. The first item they took from my brother was a 20hp Mercury outboard engine. He had took the trouble to remove the simple twist handle bolts and replace them with bolts thru the transom. So undoubtedly, the checked it out then came back with tools! Personally I like the idea of punji sticks, or one of those swinging devices used in the John Wayne movie. Probably not spelled correctly "The Green Beret". But I know. Too cruel. 🤔
  11. Went out and was surprised to see the small crescent moon in the already bright twilight. When the sun finally did rise over the horizon I couldn't find the moon again with my eyes.
  12. The colours are beautiful! And the detail amazing.
  13. I'm enjoying watching your build! The shovel is one of man's worst friends! That was an amazing amount of soil you moved!
  14. Right now for me it's just a lock and dead bolt. But I worry to the point I walk around my property almost every morning from 2:30 am to 4am. I make sure me and my bright white head lamp are visible while I'm out walking. They hit my brother's 4 times. The last time all they stole was the motion sensor camera he set to catch them.
  15. Thought I might have a chance to view the moon, but clouds were beginning to roll in and thicken. Took a few quick single images with just the camera.
  16. Right now it is not more than 35° or maybe 40° above the horizon by sunrise. I have some 25' trees that block them from the observatory. Last season when they are close to the zenith they are close to 50°+ but there are no trees to obstruct my view. I'll be using my 8" F4.9 reflector on an eq6r.
  17. Nice! They have to climb a little higher to clear some trees I'm fond of. I'm anxiously waiting now that I have a proper mount.
  18. Seeing that prom makes me think just one thing! RAISE THE SHIELDS, NOW!!
  19. Needless to say, I'm confused. My new Canon T7 doesn't work with my Canon EOS program. I see a lot of programs that don't use dslr's and some that do. What do you pro's suggest for someone just sticking their toe in the water? I really value your experience!
  20. You never cease to amaze me when it comes to the ISS! Superb image!
  21. The question I have always had is, with the time it takes, say for a probe to reach Jupiter. After the couple of gravity assisted course correction, what do the engineers do for the years that the only thing that is happening is the little probes sitting in the back seat asking "are we there yet? ARE WE THERE YET?" And the missus probe wanting to know when they'll see the next rest stop with a bathroom? And V'ger has been 40+ years?
  22. I agree. But I'm not going to worry till they announce it is coming back this way! It might not hurt though for you to start gathering the rest of the crew!
  23. There is a proposed Starliner launch scheduled for 6:54 EST. It is targeted for the ISS and must go off at that time! Cargo and a dummy, non living! This is the third attempt and if it fails, it could mean a total back to the drawing board for Boeing. I'm clouded in so will have to stream live! Boeing is an old name in the exploration of space, so my fingers are crossed for them.
  24. I'll have to give it a look when I get back home.
