  1. That you are ready to retire and someone is going to erase all your memories with a neurolizer! Remember to leave yourself some clues in case we need you back!
  2. Well done! That is an incredible image! They say the GRS is slowing diminishing in size. Is it just me or does it appear smaller in this image?
  3. When I think about it, my biggest stumbling block is at the point where nothing goes bang and everything we know is out there now became. Do I believe it possible? Yes. Do I believe it happened? Oh yeah! There is still too much we don't understand. Seeing how hard we try to find the answer, I ask myself, do we really want to? Or better yet, should we? One of the most incredible steps in the progress of humans, was when we learned to split the atom, creating unbelievable power. I might not have it perfect, but Oppenheimer said something along the line of "I am become Shiva, destroyer of worlds!, seeing the atomic test. Do we really want to figure out how to possibly take nothing, and be able to destroy everything?
  4. Yes, still an impressive accomplishment! It will be interesting on what they discover, any if they share the information.
  5. Even if the viewing isn't as perfect as you would like, it's nice to be able to get the scope low on the horizon. With my first observatory I could, but the new one I'm not able to.
  6. I was out for about an hour and a half with my 20x80 binoculars. In the general area Sky Safari shows near Gemini, I could find a faint blue speck, but no tail. I'm not sure if I'm going to claim seeing it yet. Hopefully tomorrow I'll set up a camera to get a long exposure of the area. To use my scope, it will have to come out of area 51.
  7. I agree totally. But, sadly, we are still a "claim it" world. Personally I think EVERYTHING in space should be for the good, or bad of everyone. When the big rock comes, it's not going to matter what continent you live on, or what you look like. The Moon should be looked at just like Antarctica. Or like the ISS. Except that is even verboten to a couple nations.
  8. Perhaps it's the retooling that prevents the USA from fully going to metric. It must be what Alien technology uses the way every 10mm socket and wrench i own, disappears into a black hole around my house.
  9. Seems from what I'm reading online the the Russian lunar lander, Luna25, when failing to fire thrusters and get into a correct orbit for landing, ceased to exist. Sounds more scientific than crashed. I guess that means there will be a new acronym, CTE to go along with SpaceX's, RUD. I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned about getting to the surface at the South polar area first, like they will claim it. Seems everyone is just struggling to get there and land, again. Now to see if India has some success!
  10. Do you have any lights inside or do you just use your headlamp? Recently I've found that even during the daytime, if the door is closed it is very dark in mine. I went out while it was raining to find a small leak. Just as soon as I closed the door, it was too dark to find the leak! I'm considering some red leds, perhaps with an adjustable switch.
  11. When I got back into it, I bought an 8"OTA. Now, the only thing I would do over is make it an 10" if not a 12".
  12. Excellent images Sir. Really eye catching!
  13. Really some great images of the giants! Well done.
  14. Definitely the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter! I got the opportunity to do that with my #1SIL's parents. I don't think they had every looked through a telescope before. His father, Kerry, looked at Saturn for just a second, stepped back and looked up at the tiny speck in the sky! His comment as he went back to the telescope was WOW!
  15. I have set up my camera, a Canon, with direct power to let it run unattended all night. 10 sec exp will run into the thousands! I have caught many meteors, and have also caught an unexpected rain that ended with my camera and lens in a container with "damprid" to dry it out. I always thought, maybe I'll catch that moment no one expected.I
  16. I personally have wondered in the other direction. What's the chances that the moment I walked back into the house, we hit an unexpected, previously undiscovered outburst, and there was a 1000 a minute storm, for just 2 minutes!

Welcome! This is an amazing forum!
  18. Now I've read that the first manned Starliner launch will be next year, no earlier than March. Boeing is confident it will be able to do its contracted 6 launches to the ISS before it is decommissioned in 2030! I need to call my doctor! She ask me this past Thur at my annual old guy exam if I was depressed! I said no! But now, I am really depressed!
  19. Yes, I purposely left out that incentive. And the fact that once again, nothing is being saved and reused. I feel as if this is being looked at like another chance for the "Ole boys" to fill their piggy bank. Yes, it is to fill the night sky with clutter, but SpaceX is launching a rocket a week, if not more!
  20. I've really been, anxious, to see progress with the Artemis program. I guess I'll just have to be patient. I can't stop thinking that our first manned launch was in '61. The next year, the President made his famous speech, to the moon and back, safely, before the end of the decade. With pencils, paper, sliderules, and hand drafting, we went thru Mercury, Gemini and then Apollo. We kept his schedule. Now, working with advanced computers, existing knowledge and designs we seem to struggle more now. Artemis's first launch was delayed 6 years. Even now, the heat shield is being questioned. I hate to even mention, budget concerns! Do you think it will be possible for them to get things going even close to the schedule? Time's a-wasting! Some of use are growing old!
  21. I was hoping to travel for both the eclipses, this Oct and next year. Now, with some budget issues, I'm having doubts. Still put in for time off this Oct so at the least I will see it at home.
  22. Nice reading your report. Glad you finally got a good night!
