I like that, as both the RoR and the dome will have been renewed. -

That's the scariest, spy in the sky. Have to use camaflarge netting, lol. -

Hi all, I've completed the RoR Observatory out of the existing wooden shed, now started with the rebuild of the dome. Looking for name suggestions for my Observatory complex, lol. I did think about the Sir Patric Moore observatory complex, lol. Suggestions appreciated.

pulsar dome damaged by thieves.

Thanks, yeah, I'll need to repaint the inside and out. -
Hi Paul, yes I do use the primary fan before I do imaging, I've added a digital temperature gauge too. I've also modded the focuser with a moonlight and skywatcher electronic focus which helps with focus. Never noticed flexing during imaging to be honest but not done a lot up to now due to house move last November and dome only just being relocated here at my new home. I'm impressed to be honest with my 12inch Orion optics. I've had SCT 8, 10 12 and currently have a 11inch XLT too but my favourite is still the 0012.

Hi, I had a 35mm Lunt several years ago and visually showed surface and prom details but the helical focuser was a pain so I moved up to the 60mm Lunt. Especially if you want eventually to image. Better to get the one with a Cranford or feather touch focuser. Also with those it's easier to add an electronic focus in the future. As astronomical equipment looses so much when you sell them and move up to something else I tend to go second hand. At the end of the day the 50mm is a good starter but not so much can be done with it. The double stack unit is another plus £1100. And double stack is when hydrogen alpha telescope's really kick off.
-
I see there's one for £2500 double stack, may be worth investigating.
-
Have you thought about a second hand 60mm Lunt for the same price roughly as a new 50mm? I added a double stack unit a year later both second hand. Cost £1950 in all second hand instead of £5000.

Repairs are solid after applying fiberglass and resin to the inside of split dome areas. Resin filled the cracks too. Applied plastic car filler to the outside and rubbed down. Just needs a fine rub down now. Still not sure to keep it white or go for green as it's seen from the road if you really look whilst walking by. Don't want unwanted visitors again. Before pic added of the same area.

Thanks Steve, much appreciated.

Hi Steve, what kind of grease did you use? Many thanks for the tip.

I had two that were seized but after some wd40 was fine and then just cleaned and more wd40.

Repairs done today to the fabric of the dome. Revamped the bearings to the wheels while I was mending thing's.

First light with solar scope and first sun image!

Wel done, brilliant first image. You might like to try ImPPG software for solar post stacking software. I use it al the time after stacking in autostakker 3. This is using ImPPG and a Lunt 60mm DS single stacked image. -
Hi, I built a RoR from a 10ft x 6ft shed. I've a celestron 11xlt, my warm room is 4ft by 6ft and the roll of roof section is 6ft by 6ft. The telescope only just fits with the dew shield half retracted down the tube. I've also a 300mm Orion optics Newtonian which didn't fit at f4. I'd say you'd need 2.5m x 2.5m area at least for the run off roof part plus minimum 1.6m x 2m for the warm room.

Very interesting, I'd certainly be interested if it'll take a celestron 11xlt. Be looking for a new mount in a few month's time.

Armoured cable laid this morning. Decided to move the position slightly backwards by 60cm. There was a huge block of concrete 60cm square and 60cm+ deep that couldn't be dug out. So I'm placing the pier build on that, good footing as this is straight on top the rock. One pic photo bombed by one of my cat's. She likes to inspect my work to see if it's done right, lol. She's inspecting the line of the dome which is now out due to moving the pier foundation back a little. Cable laid from the side garden to the front of the bungalow.
