Anyone still imaging in the UK?
Chefgage replied to rnobleeddy's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Yes I will be imaging all through summer. I see no reason to stop as certain targets are not visible in winter. -
But a shame the dark site is now flood lit

Do you have this month's sky at night magazine to hand? On page 71 there is a list of raw images to download from Hubble, Juno etc..

I assume you want actual Avi files to download and not just links to YouTube videos as posted above? If so try here. You can then download the avi's to practice processing. http://www.skyimaging.com/astronomy-videos.php

IPhone app anomaly
Chefgage replied to Starslayer's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I would say it's the opposite. It's the phones compass that is inaccurate. Sky safari is after all just pointing where the compass says it's pointing. You will find this with lots of phones not just iPhones but other makes as well. -
Northern Summer
Chefgage replied to Astro Noodles's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I still image throughout summer. There area still plenty of things to image, just because there is no astronomical darkness does not mean you cannot produce good images :) -
asiair pro video mode - how ???
Chefgage replied to powerlord's topic in Discussions - EEVA Equipment
I totally agree. There seems to be quite a few features of the asiair pro that I did not know even existed. I have watched a few videos and thought hang on it can to that? The manual for the asiair pro is very poor indeed. -
Tried it a few times with not very good results. Seems to badly affect the nebula/galaxy when removing the stars. Also exactly how does this star removal work? By this I mean when I have got it to work if I then do another levels/curves stretch (of the starless image) I can bring the stars back out?? So does starnett++ just cover up the stars or is it just not working for me?

ASIair - problems with initial set up!
Chefgage replied to johnst's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
No quite true. Depends on what you are imaging with. If you are using a DSLR you can still save to the DSLR SD card and not to the asiair. -

Your EE phone signal has no effect when using the asiair (unless internally something is wrong with the WiFi). The asiair should beep after a few seconds(about 10 seconds) to alert you it has booted the operating system up. -

The usb stick (64gb) that comes with it is just external storage. So unless you are planning on saving the images to that when imaging you can leave it out. When switching the asiair on does it beep after a few seconds. -
ASIair - problems with initial set up!
Chefgage replied to johnst's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Mine does that now and again. I think a way round it is to switch your WiFi off on your phone. Power up the asiair. Then switch on your WiFi on your phone and then select the asiair in the available WiFi connections on your phone. I think that's a way round it. -
Looks like we both had a long wait then
-
What is this I wonder? Ah I see it's my new heq5 pro that I have been waiting for 3 and a half months for it to be delivered. Worth the wait I hope. Well that's certainly bigger than my star adventurer pro!!! The tripod is the same size as the one in my star adventurer pro. So I now have two tripods the same size.

ASIair - problems with initial set up!
Chefgage replied to johnst's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Keep at it as it is a great piece of kit. There are loads of things it can do that are not really mentioned in the instructions (which are far too vague). There are some good videos on YouTube showing the basic set up. If you still struggle let me know, I could always make a specific video for something. -

You can do both. I would start though using the asiair's own broadcasted wifi signal. Although this is quite weak so if you move your phone/tablet to far away from it it will lose connection but it auto connects when you get back in range. You can use your house WiFi to control/connect to the asiair. There is a setting to change to be able to do that but I have found it to be a bit hit and miss. -

Another point to make. I take you have downloaded the asiair app? And if so what happens when you start the app after connecting the the WiFi of the asiair? -

Why do I need a telescope anyway?
Chefgage replied to Starslayer's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
The way I look at it is this. Yes everything can be viewed online be it astronomically based, holiday destinations, wild life, sports etc.. But if that was the case no body would go outside (good for covid ). The enjoyment is about seeing it in person. -
Thanks. I do find myself using the Ha filter more often than not what with the amount of light pollution i have to deal with.
