  1. NGC 7000 North America Nebula taken from a bortle 3 sky whilst on holiday in Devon. My skies at home are bortle 8 so the one night it was clear i tried to take advantage. Capture information HEQ5 Pro mount ASIAIR pro Samyang 135mm Lens Canon 200D modified ZWO ASI120mm mini guide scope ISO 800 EXP 180s Lights 50 Darks 0 Flats 0 Bias 21 Total exposure time 2 hr 30 minutes
  2. I caught one that from a visual point of view I had not seem anything like it before. It lit up the sky and actual hurt my eyes (I was in a bortle 4 sky). I quickly looked at my tab that was controlling the asiair and I had got the fire ball as an image. Just need to get back home from camping to process them.
  3. Mines been out in very Dewey nights where everything gets soaking. The asiair pro does not seem to get wet. As it is fairly warm when running anyway this should stop any problems.
  4. Excellent image. I never thought of being in the image myself. Might have to try that.
  5. Yes I like the idea of the foreground in the image. That is something I will do.
  6. Hello all. With the peak of the Perseid meteor shower happening Thursday night this week, what is everyones tips for imaging this event? For me I was thinking of imaging using my 18mm lens on the star adventurer pro mount using my modified DSLR. Keeping the exposures to 30 seconds at iso 800. Pointing the camera in the direction of Perseus (centering on Miram perhaps?)
  7. I think what it is telling you is that your process history and workflow will not be saved as you are just saving the image as a jpg. You can of course save the whole project which then when you load it up has all your workflow showing (if you minimise the tabs).
  8. In pixInsight just do save as and then save as say a jpg or PNG.
  9. At a dark site. Motor home next to me has a led light blaring away all night. This seems to be the norm for mobile homes and caravans. Any way I had managed to image the night before this campervan appeared. But a few nights later this campervan appeared next to my pitch. It was then it seemed everyone on the site who had a caravan or mobile home thought it was ok to leave a led light blaring out all night. Why do that???? The same happens at home. Now for a fun bit. At about 00:30 I went and banged on the motorhome next to me to turn off their led light that was lighting up the campsite. Well the guy came to the door naked. Then my mrs told me to get inside, cursing me she was But to me we are in a dark sky area, so why have all the lights blaringing out??
  10. That's where we are! Holsworthy, not the place in your photo with no moon the milky way stretched from one side of the campsite over head and disappeared the other side, amazing to look at.
  11. I visited this dark sky area last year. The amount of difference between my usual bortle 8 skies compared to this bortle 4 is amazing. I need to buy a few more lottery tickets so I can move down here
  12. I have taken your bookmark. I am currently sat here under bortle 4 skies imaging said ngc7000. Gone for 180s subs at iso 800 and f4 on the samyang. Sitting it out for 40 subs as i am getting a bit cold (we are camping) and the beer is running out (well it is now 01:35) Need to think about my bias and flats soon but maybe I will do them when it's light. Trying to get plenty of data while we are away and take advantage of these fantastic skies. Just checked on the battery situation and I think I can squeeze a few more frames. Now that I am powering my heq5 pro and asiair pro of this battery I does not last as long. Looks like a new purchase is immenent.
  13. I am in Devon in bortle 3 or 4 skies. This is a change from where I live which is bortle 8. I cannot believe the amount of stars I can see. I am struggling to see a lot of the constellations because of the shear amount of stars! It's currently 1am and I am imaging the north America nebula, but I cannot help but stand there looking up at all the stars. The fact I can clearly see the milky way is just fantastic. Anyway back to having a few beers, listening to the DSLR clicking away and me getting a stiff neck looking up!!
  14. I am not familiar with the size of your scope but would one of the biggest Geoptik bags fit your scope with a bit of padding?
  15. Would this one work? I you search on this site for Geoptik bags there are.some hard case and padded cases of different sizes up to12". https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/geoptik-padded-case-for-925-10-sctrc.html
  16. Thought I might just ask. I have before wound the focuser in then realised I had not taken my flats!
  17. I take it then you have not altered focus/removed the camera/dismantled the imaging rig since imaging?
  18. I am off on a long journey to the other end of the country to some nice dark skies. I plan on making a list of everything and ticking it off as I put it in the van. If something is to be forgotten it would bound to be something like you said, the scope!
  19. Excellent image, always amazes me what is actually out there I am off to a darker site soon (from a bortle 8 to a bortle 3). I imaged M31 from that location last year but have since upgraded my equipment. I will be imaging using my modified DSLR but have you any expert tips that you could share regards not blowing out the core. From a processing point I can somewhat dial back the core using pixInsight but I would like to get the actual data right in the first place. I Assume taking long exposures along with some shorter one for the core?
  20. Seems to look a bit worse on here than on my monitor. I am still getting a motling effect on the background of the image. I suppose due to the fact I am using a uncooled astro camera (DSLR). I do dither , maybe not enough. During processing I did make a bit of a cock up in that I missed creating a mask part way through to mask the nebula to then adjust the background. I will re-process this again. Ultimately a cooled astro camera will be on its way shortly
