I’ve got my heart set on a NexStar 8se,but I keep reading the tube is too heavy for the mount. Is there anyone with knowledge that could put my mind at rest, thanks.

Hello everybody,
Being new at SGL, not in amateur astronomy, I'm taking back up my old hobby again 🥰.
I know I will find here a lot of interesting people and subjects and I did write a good part of my "astronomical" history 😉 in my profile.
So You can read it if you want so.
Kind regards and see you in one or the other interesting chat or subject.
Have a nice day 👋 🤓

Do you happen to have any good advice on how to make the Losmandy clamps fit a dovetail clamp without taking a band saw to them or spending a fortune on an adapter?

900mm Reflector telescope with a equitorial mount. It's a Bushel, not a great scope... But has been fun. The tripod is beginning to slip a little. Into observing now but would like add a bit of photography.

You should include that information in your thread

Could anybody please recommend, a power supply suitable for the Skywatcher EQ-6-R pro so that i can run it off of mains power, I have seen various post on US sites but the item is not available on Amazon UK

It might be better if you started a new thread rather than post in your status update

Although I joined in 2014, I've been too busy running a business to get too involved and now with the COVID-19 crisis, have finally dusted off my 14" Celestron Edge HD six weeks ago only then to have a catastrophe when a Northern Gale blew the dome off the top of my Pulsar Observatory!
During that night rain got into the RA drive and completely ruined the electronics and after struggling to find support from the original supply chain, decided to upgrade the mount to a CGX-L which in itself created problems in that the mount is 200mm lower than it's predecessor.
Not only that, the bolt positions for the new mount needed re-drilling to get a better Polar Alignment.
Unfortunately, during this major re-build and because of the significant weight of the components, on one occasion struggled with the tube, which had a considerable bump onto a rubber floor.
I now have a problem as during the process of aligning the finder scope with the main Tube, I find that although both focusing well at short distances, I cannot get the main Scope to focus on a star.
Could this be a collimation problem or even worse a main mirror mis-alignment?

Yes apologies new to this forum yes I’ve come up with an very easy upgrade so to speak if you can call it an upgrade that is more of a perk as if you got an goto mount in alignment procedure instead of useing a cross hair illuminated eyepiece which can be tricky at times I’ve drilled a small 3-5 mm hole in eyepiece dust cap and you still can see star clearly this saves eye balling the object in centre of eyepiece and I’ve found in goto the object is defiantly closer towards the centre of field of veiw

Hello, my name is Alex Houston and I live in Central Scotland. I have been interested in astronomy since a very young age and am a member of Stirling Astronomical Society. I am a keen astrophotographer and have taken advice from SGL in the past. Having had a photo of the lunar surface published in the March 2018 edition of Sky at Night magazine, I thought that I might have something to contribute and, therefore, decided to join.

Hello. I saw that you have (or had) a Omegon (Barsta) barlow lens
Is it a good barlow? I would like you answer me. Thank you.

Can anyone help with the slewing area required for the Celestron CGX 1100 Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph I have a telescope working area of 1.2mtrs depth x 1.7mtrs width which my Celestron SE8 is currently set up in in my observatory but wanting to upgrade to the RASA 11. I have tried for days searching the internet for the overall area required.
I know the width of 1.7mtrs will not be a problem but desperate to find out if the 1.2mtr depth will be sufficient to operate comfortably before I invest in a new set up!
Cheers
Mick
