Celestron 8se or a 200p goto on a good mount?

A C8 on a good mount will be much better to use than a 200P, so thumbs up for a C8 from me. -

Package No;2 arrived earlier on too. A nice Baader 2” clicklock diagonal. For the mount that I’ll be using for a while I’ve put a slightly longer dovetail on the scope to allow fitting a counter weight to the front end of the scope to give better balance on the current mount, especially when at higher declinations.

Thanks. Yes, had an Altair Astro ED 66mm ‘frac a while back which gave me cracking pin sharp views, but sold it on. If this one gives similar views it definitely won’t be getting sold on. Just testing the focuser on it by keeping it at 90 degrees with a diagonal and one of my heaviest EP’s in. Not moved a fraction on the 2 speed gear, which holds much better than a Crayford focuser I think, unless you spend crazy money on a top end focuser.

Package No;1 arrived just 20 mins ago. New ‘frac to get me back in the mood for astronomy again. Package No; 2 should be landing in about an hour or so to complement it too! Fingers crossed for some clear skies later on this evening for a first lighting!

In Cornwall camping with my family to observe the eclipse. Sadly, normal British weather got in the way with grey skies and clouds, so didn’t see the eclipse, just experienced the darkness when it happen. We did see a brief peek of the sun through clouds after the event as the moon rolled off the sun, but again this was quickly swallowed up by more clouds.

Nice report Doug. Not done any observing for absolute ages, so nice to see the planets are still up there twirling around.

Popped into The Works after picking an item up from Argos, and managed to bag the pretty decent bargain below up for just £3. Bought it for the maps of Mars at the back of the book, but looks like a good nice lite read anyway. Worth checking out for the price if your near one of the stores. 😀

Wait for Skysafari to come up on there quite often 50% offers (which seem to be every 2 to 3 months or so) and snap up the Pro version for half price.

Well, didn’t take too long to fill up that space again! The C8 on the AVX goto Mount fits in to that corner much better than the Skytee 2 Mount did. And the Celestron Omni 120mm can rest on the new shelf created for it. Wonder how long it will stay as tidy as that? Hehe!

Glad it fitted into your existing tripod OK Doug. Just finished putting up a shelf for my Celestron Omni 120mm to sit on when not in use. It normally sat on the Skytee 2 mount until required. Now I’ve got a corner of my room back with the Skytee 2 mount gone I wonder what I can fill it with? Hehe!

Try another serial to usb cable. Sometimes these can be the problem.
