  1. For better balance on the Skytee you need to avoid the top mount and put an extra saddle on th other side of the T-bar. Here’s my two ‘fracs from a few nights back, which when balanced do not require any weights to be added. The upside of this is that rather than relying on the clutches to stop the scopes from plummeting downwards if the altitude clutch is released the scopes will stay approximately in the same position. I plan also on using some of my other scopes in combination with the Celestron Omni 120mm ‘frac, but as this is strictly a ‘frac only post I can’t mention them! Hehe!
  2. Gone and done it now! Pressed the button on a ZWO ASI 120 MC camera. ?

  3. Nice 2 hour session. Would have stayed out a little longer if it wasn’t too cold! Brrrrr........

  4. Chilly out there, but good to get the scope out for a wee session again. Pity that Skysafari never allowed an alignment with my goto mount, but the normal handcontroller came to the rescue! :)

  5. No Astro mojo at the moment. Hoping to get it back after New Year again fingers crossed!

I think I've still got mine just no time to get out. When will the present wrapping ever end ;)

Think the cold weather isn’t helping either, nor the clouds, or the damp etc, but binos are always still handy for any quick outside nocturnal excursions still. :)

You will Gus, you will!  I've not exactly lost mine, but the lousy skies are getting me down, and Christmas will be downtime what with everything else going on.  So Yes - roll on early January!

      Doug.

  6. Quick smash and grab for about an hour. Some old chums seen (M42 very clear, even without filters), and some new asteroids added to the tally! :)

  7. Nice unexpected Astro session; bagged asteroid Iris again easily, and also saw galaxy Cetus A for the first time too. Hope for better skies at SGL star party too to nab more goodies too! Fingers crossed! :)

  8. Yeah, don’t waste your money. I bought one of these over a year ago and it was a waste of money. Optics are dire, and you need to have your eye in a perfect position to get any decent image of any stars etc.
  9. Woohoo! Going to watch the 40th anniversary filming of Close Encounters of the third kind tomorrow night at the movies! Classic movie! Can't wait! ???

  10. Plenty going on on the sun today,  in white light, so have a look if you get the chance to. :)

  11. Great transparency last night. Managed two new targets; NGC400 (Mirach's ghost) & M102 (Spindle galaxy). Also saw M33 for the first time for a long time from my garden. Excellent stuff! :)

  12. Sorry Dave. Must have got you confused with another SGL member who recently bought the same mount off Astroboot, not new but in very good condition.
  13. New mount looks great Dave, and a nice 'frac sat on top of it too. If you use a 25 or 32mm EP in your scope you should be able to see the Dumbbell OK. I see pretty well on a clear nights OK with my shorter AR90S f5.5 'frac, and also my two longer 'fracs when I use then, even with the LP where I live too. Sweep slowly with one of the above EP's and unless the seeing is very poor you should get it eventually, especially when M27 is close to the meridian at around 10:30pm'ish, so at its highest point in the sky.
  14. Liking the darker nights once again, when clouds allow of course!

  15. Managed to bag a new planetary nebula last night, NGC7027, along with Neptune too, along with all the usual suspects too. Had a nice 2.5hrs under some clear sky from 11:00pm till finish at 1:30am. :)

Nice catches! Sounds like a more than satisfying "knight"!

  16. Great views of Saturn this evening. Cassini was so prominent. Even managed to see details on the planet too for the first time. Kind of strange that Jupiter wasn't any where near as good!

  17. Nice wee session with my goto. Nice to see Saturn & 4 of its moons.  Also, nice to see the dumbbell nebula once again, even in the poor sky conditions.

  18. Lunar V is starting to show, well before the X which should start approx 10:36p'm UK time.

  19. Lunar X coming up around 10:36pm UK tonight, so fingers crossed for my first viewing. May also see the V too, so here's hoping! ????

  20. Yeah, a good quality screwdriver with correct size head should do the job. Just hope you haven't damaged any screw heads at all in trying before as that will cause more trouble for you. If still tight carefully let a small amount of WD40 soak into each screw to try to assist loosening it up a little. Go carefully and use small amounts, and leave to soak in for about 10 mins before wiping excess off and trying to losen the screws. Make sure no WD40 comes any where near the optics on the scope, and also wipe any away that might get inside the scope after soaking in to any screws near the focuser.
  21. Arrived from Germany this morning I got my spreader stopper for my Berlebach Uni28 tripod. Looks much better than with the chains that came with the mount.
  22. Nice looking scope Chris. Thinking of starting a book on the odds before you change it. Hehe! Joking aside, hoping you get good views with it and it's a keeper for you.
  23. Got a brief outing on Thursday night with the new C8 SCT. Collimation was slightly out (sorted now hopefully). With DSO's however I managed to easily pick out some galaxies that I'd not seen before, so very happy with that even with the LP where I live! :)

  24. Managed to catch a break in the clouds and see Vesta again. Nicely viewed with the help of Skysafari. Forcast pretty dire for the week ahead so may be the last time for a few days to track it again!

  25. Nice! Bet those two purchases put a big dint in your finances!
