  1. You'll enjoy that! Have you or any other lengths? I'm in the process of doing a bit of a SLV v Delos shootout. Those SPV's punch a long long way above their price bracket. Paul
  2. That looks nice. It should add some rigidity to proceedings, as well as giving you somewhere handy to stash your ? ??? Mine is rubbish. It is the "C" click stop version. Great for stability. Rubbish for beer☹️☹️☹️ Seriously. I'm not sure that I could go back to metal tripods. Paul
  3. Properly portable. Find somewhere flat and away you go! Paul
  4. That's a shame Jules. From reading the thread. Several forum members found the review enjoyable and useful. Don't stop. Wouldn't mind reading your thoughts on the Tal 100 views vs the ED 120. Paul
  5. That about clears that one up then. I'd be interested in hearing about the Tal vs ED120 performance too. Although the ED100 (also f10) would be even better. The Tals seem to pop up second hand for a very reasonable price. Paul
  6. Yes. It is the f10 version. I'll see if I can get a decent go before it fulfils its destiny as a sacrifice to the great God Helios (in Ha). Paul
  7. OK. So "effusive" might be a tad strong. I am prone to hyperbole. Maybe I have been inadvertently adding to the hype..... Here are the positive observations cut and pasted: "Luna views are extremely good when viewing detail with a moon at a decent altitude," "Jupiter gave super and yes i really do mean superb views, in moments of good seeing, with the GRS being plain to see and an eclipse of one of the Jovian moons " "some of the messier s are very well resolved in this 120, M45 with 2" 42mm EP is stunning, fitting the whole cluster in the field of view and other open clusters being very easy to resolve" "I have viewed, some double stars, again the scope gives a good account of itself, even allowing me to image Polaris with 1000D at prime focus" Paul PS. Given the altitude, I had some really nice views of Saturn last night. Using .......... an ED120???
  8. Not again! What do you need a really long 100mm scope for? Sorry. Stupid question. Buy away. I've got the medium length version landing later this week. ?? It will also temporarily quieten the little voice inside that is going "Tak Tak Buy Buy Tak Tak....." Paul
  9. Very nice. I have a real soft spot for the chunky little fellows. Lovely wide fields with pin sharp little stars everywhere! Nice focuser too. Paul
  10. This thread just keeps on giving. It is true that I didn't partake in the thread that ended in the acquisition of this ED120; or any subsequent communications. But, the OP was effusive about views of Jupiter, the Moon and the Double Cluster. He noted that open clusters and doubles were also a strength. I also read that due to the limitations of 120mm and local LP, the fuzzies were never going to be great. I'm guessing that the comment about him getting carried away expectation wise by the good reviews, could be the issue. I have an ED120 which used to reside with a prominent SGLer. I am very happy with the scope. And. Yes. I do often grin and even sing whilst at the eyepiece. I can honestly say that I have never seen the ED120 being touted as a decent fuzzy hunter. Fun under a dark sky, but you wouldn't trade in your Dob. Paul
  11. Not like Dobs???? I bet that was a lively thread. But it does go to show that personal preferences are exactly that. As long as the posts are balanced and not disrespectful to others, then I'm happy.? To not mention a scope's limitations in a review would be doing a disservice to the readers. Paul
  12. Sorry chaps, but I thought that the original writup was balanced, fair and entertaining! I guess that different folks read things different ways..... My ED120 makes me grin for all of the reasons mentioned by Jules. Jupiter on a good night. Wow!!!!! Being used to 10/16" Dob views, smaller fracs make it feel like someone turned the lights down. The ED120 has enough punch to get round this. Thanks for posting. Paul
  13. Splendid splendid setup! I wouldn't do any of this side by side comparison mallarky. Just enjoy! Which will be your first targets? Paul
  14. Splendid scopes Andy. And there was me thinking that all of the craftsmen were Dob owners! Quick Caviat - Except for Mr Wetherell of course. Paul
  15. Welcome back! 5 years is a long time for us, but the stars are still as you left them. Paul
  16. Bresser do seem to ramp up the quality as soon as you hit the 100mm mark. Same in the F10 range, but there is a €100 price difference.. I was considering the F10 90mm for a PST donor scope, but bailed due to quality. The 102mm is a bit pricy to take a hack saw to! Paul
  17. I'm not saying that I'm not going to buy it. Lack of Astro budget tends to slow the buying progress rather than derail it completely.???
  18. Ha! My willpower is far superior to yours! Or, I am far more skint!??? Sadly, I fear that it is the latter. Enjoy the new scope. Paul
  19. These pictures of big fracs are amazing, but they come at a cost....... The guy with the 10" TEC can't afford socks any more and his shoes a full of holes. And, by the time you have amassed a collection like the seconds chap, even a basic shirt be beyond your means.... Thank goodness this affliction is confined to big frac owners (trying hard not to think of the massed ranks of the Dob Mob). Paul
  20. Well done! I've got to admit that I had a little browse of the Bresser site on the back of this thread. Mulling over a cheap f10..... Paul
  21. Oooo. Haven't seen a Lacerta wedge before. I wonder how it will perform against the ubiquitous Lunt. Paul
  22. Hi Chris I struggle with EQ mounts too. You do get used to it. But, why bother? Too complicated in my book! All of my scopes are on simple up/down left/right Alt/Az mounts. Very easy. You can use spotting scopes. And, you will enjoy yourself. But, you will soon find it limiting. Once you have chosen your scope, you can ask advice on this forum re which Alt/Az mount suits the scope and your needs. Paul PS. If you have any imaging aspirations, you will need a driven Eq mount.
  23. Surprised to see Nick lurking around Solar gear. The sun aint a Double Star!!!? Lovely set up Stu. Is a Tak a bit like overkill for white light? Ok, that was envy talking...... ? sorry. Paul
