Just a quickie, I took a shed load of images last night of the moon using my DSLR on my scope with the intention to stitch using Microsoft ICE but its been pulled! Any free software suggestions for image stitching (not stacking)?

Recently I bought a ZWO ASI178MM for planetary/lunar/deep-sky imaging and last weekend i had clear skies so I was able to capture videos of the moon in two panels. I have already processed the videos in AutoStakkert, I used 3x drizzle because I intend to print the image so now I have two 120MB TIFF images that i would like to combine in a two panel mosaic. I tried doing it in Hugin, a free panorama stitcher but the program crashes due to the file sizes being too large. I have searched for tutorials on using DynamicAlignment in PixInsight but it seems to me that i'll need a reference image to b

Hi everyone. So I'm looking to do some form of mosaic over the weekend. Is it better to stack in mosaic mode in DSS or merge in photoshop? And is there any other advice for me as this is mainly a learning evening for me so any tips would help. Also do I need just 1 set of calibration frames or a set for each part of the mosaic. Thanks, Paul.

Hi everyone, A bit of an odd one aspect ratio wise, but fun to put together - first light for my new ASI294MC OSC and technically my first experimental attempt at a mosaic! My first stab at using the camera meant I went for 30 second subs, I need to experiment more to settle on my ideal sub length...still, the results are decent for a low integration time of 1.7 hours. I love the Orion constellation and if I had the skies and time, I would mosaic the whole thing, but failing that, I can do bits and pieces! Orion's Belt is amazing to me, the three stars, Alnitak, Alnilam and Mint

Second time I undertake this kind of endeavour. Many many movies were shot. Over 300Gb of data. Stitching was done by hand. in adobe Photoshop. Equipment used: CFF 300f//20 cassegrain ASI174MM with Astronomik proplanet807 processing using Autostakkert, lynkeos and adobe photoshop. Image is a wee bit too large to add to post direclty. hence just the link. https://astrob.in/400728/0/ Make sure to check out at full res. enjoy. Wouter.

Hi everyone! The Tadpole Nebula and the Flaming Star Nebula captured over three nights of the unexpected nice weather we had a couple of weeks ago. A number of firsts with this image: 1. My first mosaic - keeping it simple with two panes! 2. First time I left my imaging rig outside... (I used a telegizmo cover) and it was perfect, allowing me to get imaging very quickly on each night 3. First time using powerful scripting tools in my capture software, APT, to move to the second pane and starting imaging automatically...worked really well! APP was used for pre-processing

Hi, although Ive been doing lots of deep sky imaging Ive not really done any serious lunar imaging at all. Here is my first try with ASI1600MM-C and 12" f/10 Meade SCT on EQ8. I took 4 panels with 850nm IR pass filter, 20 frames stacked in each panel out of 500. Image is quite large, at 1:2 scale out of the original. There is plenty of intresting details around Mare Crisium. Unfortunately seeing wasnt stable enough the top panel would be as sharp as the rest is. Still Im quite happy with the results. C&C welcome.

It seems that none of my glass optics doesn't want to play nice anymore. I started this 2 panel mosaic while shooting for the bubble area, on Ha, with the Canon 300 F4 L lens. In the beginning it went better, but at some point the IS elements decolimated and I just couldn't luckily align it ok again (by attaching back to the camera and focusing with the IS on and then detaching it). I tried one round with the O3, but then I switched to the Tair 3s. The total on this target is like this: 6 h of Ha on each panel, 1:x h of Canon O3 + 1:15 of Tair O3 on each panel. That means ~17h in total. I

It took me a while to process the images taken this weekend: this beautiful weather did come with a price, too many GB to process! These are from Thursday evening: an almost full lunar disk taken with my newest ASI 1600mm. Lower resolution than my other camera, and slower, but very good to get the moon in the field without stiching. The mosaic below, instead, was taken with my ASI 178mm: smaller pixel and smaller sensor, so much higher resolution, and lots more details. Unfortunately there are some stiching artifact, that I hope to remove in a future version.

4 panel mosaic of M106 Data: Liverpool telescope at La Palma (Canary Islands) r (sdss-r), g (Bessel-V) and b (Bessel-B) datasets, 4 x 90 seconds per channel at f/10 (but a 2 m primary mirror) My first time making a mosaic. The data was rather flat, with a very bright inner core and only faint outer arms. Even though there is no Ha data, there is just a hint of Ha jets near the center.

Hello all, I started a while ago shooting the bubble and the M52, first in Ha, then RGB and then O3 too. 25min on each RGB channel, 5-6 h on Ha and 1.5h on O3. Here is the result: Then I asked myself if I should shoot L, more RGB, more narrowband or if I should go for another target. And I decided that I should try a mosaic in this area and catch the lobster claw too. The decision being took, I went below, left and then above again for panels 2, 3 and 4. R first, some of the G after. The rest of G and the B the next night. Last night I also shot 45 minutes of O3 on each of the

I took this image on the 4th Nov over the space of about half an hour from 2215UT. This mosaic is made from 18 frames, each of them is 3000 frames, with the best 12% stacked within Autostakkert2. Total data size was 52.6GB - all using an ASI120MM through a 350mm newt at f4.52 with a 742nm nr-IR filter. Each of the frames was processed identically in Registax6 with Wavelets, etc. and then saved as a fits file. At this point, I took the images into ICE and combined them into one large mosaic, and then post processed in PS (levels, slight smart sharpening, curves and background levels). I di

7 panel lunar mosaic from 12/10/2017 captured with skywatcher 120mm (F8.33), & Lumenera 2-1M. Best 75% of 1150 - 1350 frames were stacked for each of the 7 panels (frame rate kept dropping) then sharpened in Registax6 before stitching them together in PS6 using the photomerge option.

You could call this my first proper attempt at andromeda, thought I've imaged it quite a few times now. But this is the first time I've managed to get most of it in one picture, which required me to do a two-pane mosaic. The left side of the mosaic is stitched 27 subs of 2 minutes ISO 3200, while the right side is 28 subs, + 1 sub of 8 minutes ISO 800 (just to test what difference exposure contra ISO does to details). I am very pleased with the result of it, but I also discovered some of the pains of doing mosaics, as getting an even background was very hard. Gradient X-terminator would d

A few firsts on this one.. Managed to dodge the clouds & showers Sat night & grab First Light for the QSI683wsg-8 & Astrodons, my first mosaic and first time I've bothered to image these targets as I've never been able to fit them in! This was just supposed to be a couple of test targets to get an idea of the FOV & flatness but I got kinda hooked in processing & ended up putting them together. So there's a bit of cropping as it wasn't planned. This really is a nice camera.. what a difference after years with the faithful 314's. Think I'm hooked on hoovering up the sky now..

My first proper mosaic (2285 x 2246) of the waxing gibbous moon of the January 22, 2016 taken using A C11 Edge and unmodified D7200 at prime focus. Frames from 9 x 10 second AVIs were stacked using Autostakkert2, sharpened and then assembled using PS photomerge. I also did a little tweaking of brightness and contrast in PS. I'm quite please with the results but would gladly hear comments :-) R:)

This four panel mosaic gives an incredible widefield view of one of the most colourful regions in the night sky. A collection of intricate dust clouds, reflection, emission and dark nebulae and background globular clusters makes this a fascinating area. All data captured previous summer (end of June) in Mt. Parnon Greece @ 1430m. We finally found some time to process and merge all of them in one picture. Luminance taken by Angelos Kechagias with an Atik 428EX on a Nikon 50mm Lens, RGB taken by Evangelos Souglakos (me) with an Atik 4000 on a Canon 50mm Lens. Both lenses were

First lunar mosaic attempt here. 8 images from 12 videos of 1800 800x800 33fps on ASi120 mono through a NA140SF Vixen. Processed in AS2 for stacking, registax for wavelets and Maxim for stitching. Quite happy with this - gonna get it printed. Cheers Mike

While looking up using mosaic images at x5 barlow to create more detailed surface images i stumbled across this.(Enlarge to see all the magnificiant detail, This is not my image and i take no credit for it). Original article Jaw dropping mosaic So now ive seen this i want to try it myself. Ive seen the option on DSS to create mosaic's but have yet to try it, or even if it would work. Anyway i jusy wanted to share this splendid piece of photography.

This is about as good as I'll be able to get with this Barlow lens and the humidity/heat that we are having in the central part of Arkansas. I'll be getting ahold of a much higher quality Barlow at some point before the end of the year, probably a 3x or maybe even the 5x(not sure about the 5x on such a small refractor though, and the folks I've been asking apparently want to keep this a secret).....I digress. If you have suggestions on a 1.25" Barlow in either 3x or 5x....please let me know! This is the full sized image-should be able to click and go full screen(I think).
