11 mm tv plossl and coronado pst.
Paul73 replied to andre2's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
Another zoom fan here. So much of solar is about tweaking things as seeing fluctuates. The Baader one is better corrected too (the sun is rounder). But I will check the TV Plossl/PST pairing again. -
11 mm tv plossl and coronado pst.
Paul73 replied to andre2's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
Can’t remember any problems with 11mm TV Plossl. Try losening off the screw and skidding the eyepiece our as you look through it. If it comes to focus. You will just need a cheap extender. I’ve got an 11mm and an 15mm somewhere. I’ll give them a try in the PST when I next see the sun (probably the weekend). Paul -

You get used to it! It does feel really odd to start with. Paul -
Is this Saturn pic any good for this time of year?
Paul73 replied to Jojo204's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Given that Saturn barely gets above the horizon at the moment, anything that clearly shows a disc and the rings is a good result! You are shooting through a lot of wobbly light polluted atmosphere when it is that low. Is this a single frame? If so try stacking multiple frames. I’m new to imaging so I’ll leave it to the experts to advise on stacking. Paul -

Two eyepatches? What could possibly go wrong?

All on 12 months!! You’ll have the obsey dome in a weekend! Good luck with the build. Paul

If you could only choose one telescope for everything
Paul73 replied to Chris's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
True. But we did talk a really good game about scopes, mirrors, etc etc etc. Paul ps. The Jura malt (and Dob Mob emergency vodka rations) lubricated some very animated scope discussions back at the camp site until really quite late........?? -
NV eyepieces - a new potential equipment segment?
Paul73 replied to vlaiv's topic in Discussions - EEVA Equipment
Thanks for posting. The diagram seems to sum things up nicely. I’d be surprised if the nice people at Daystar aren’t having a look at this. Paul -
To be fair. That is exactly what is happening. Currently, zero confusion. At least, and unusually, I’m not confused.?

Responding to John’s thoughts 2 posts ☝️☝️☝️ True. But you do stick it in the focuser (with eyepiece attached) and stare into it. Rather than plugging things in, booting things up and looking at a laptop screen. Re. Doubling the aperture. Good example. Take the Veil, OIII filter and 10” scope under ok sky = Naked 20” Scope under dark sky? Yes. That is only one type of target, and an extreme one at that. However, NV responds to some types of targets better than others. Paul

We do seem to be broadly in agreement that NV observing threads don’t belong in this section??? Live (or near live) Observing reports in the Observing section. With an appropriate title. What could be easier?? I choose old school visual as my preferred path, but enjoy reading reports from other forms of observing. Partitioning things up will only deepen divides, when we should all be treating those exploring new ideas with respect and thanking them for sharing their journey. Paul

As Stu (a dedicated visual chap) pointed out in his comprehensive NV observing report earlier this evening. I really can’t understand why people get sniffy about NV as an observing tool. May as well cry foul that someone has got an Hbeta filter to view the, massively underwhelming, Horses Head. Paul

I’d hazard that NV is a lot closer to Visual than imaging. And that EAA is closer to imaging that observing (imaging for impatient people??). No processing involved in NV. Some serious processing (near real time) for EAA. Paul

They have a great reputation. Still never looked through one. Maybe I’ll be at a star party where we get to use scopes one day..... -
They are great devices. They are beggars for dew, but can be covered / heated well enough. Paul

12” ultra light, ultra rigid f4.5 Collapsable Dob. ?. I could use it at home. Or, carry it up a mountain. It could sit on a gourmet wedge for imaging. I see no reason why, given the right materials & guiding, it couldn’t rival a traditional EQ Mount. Look at what McLaren have done with road cars and bicycles.... I wonder if they could be persuaded to build me a scope? Paul -
Butchering an old web cam? Thats the spirit! Looking forward to seeing the results. Yes. Something to hold the phone in place helps. There have been loads of threads on this over the last few days. I think that one cropped up for sale the other day in the classified section. I’m attempting a home made solution.... Paul

Thanks for posting. Fascinating stuff and a great way of comparing eyepieces. I’ve just got in trouble for spending the last 20 mins staring at my phone when I “should be doing useful stuff”..... Paul

Don’t worry. I did the same. The eyepiece case will slowely recover. Paul

Imaging Challenge #24 - Android vs iOS

Or, Pentax.... -
Don’t worry. I’d be excited to try anything that knowledgeable SGLers recommend. One thing that doesn’t seem to have been touched on is “X Factor”. ie. the some venerable Plossls or the Panoptic 24mm. Technically they have flaws, but you can’t help smiling when you use them!?. Or, the technically wonderful eyepieces that leave you cold. This includes most of the Nagler range for me. Pentax is a brand that I trust from using their binoculars for years. Next star party where there are actually some stars, i’ll seek some out to try. Paul

Scary stuff..... says the visual only chap. As mid life crisis go, imaging the heavens is pretty innocuous stuff. Your wife is a very lucky lady. Good luck with your journey to the dark side. We will miss you. I’ll get back to the observing section now. Paul PS. I’ve just acquired an EQ Mount..... But I know that I’ll always be Dob at heart. -
But then we still won’t know what the Delos is like! ?. John seems happy to have examples of both ranges in his collection. So there is unlikely to be much to choose between to two. Unless you spend time lovely stroking your eyepieces rather than looking through them, your choice should be a good one! Paul PS. I am a self confessed Delos fan and would probably spend the extra for the more engineered feel of the Televue...... I’d really like to observe with the Pentaxes one day so that I can make a more informed contribution.
