  1. Great report Alan thank you for taking the time out to write it. It has been to long since your last review and as always a very interesting detailed read (and some of the Mr Potts humour)

      Hiya Luke,

2.5mm = 200 x in the Equinox so its on the Limit (240 is the max according to the literature) It is purely for Lunar use.

The 3mm setting on the zoom was easily achieved so I do not think an extra 0.5mm will overcook it.

I only sold the Nagler zoom because I have dedicated eyepieces to cover the same range and it seems pointless having more than one to me (tight wad attitde)

I will let you know how it performs

Thanks, Shaun, I look forward to your account :) I think the 2.5mm would give me 240x with my 85mm scope and I think it would be okay on the Moon, things were looking tidy enough at about 190x. The main problem I have is Sarah is not keen on higher power viewing, so it's a bit harder to justify splashing out! But I definitely would like something with more power than the 5mm...

Luke the 4mm SLV is also excellent on both the Sun & the Moon :-) However, head positioning is about the same as a high powered Delos

    Televue Twins

The Pronto is 2.8kg with the 1.25" Televue diagonal. What size is the Genesis ?
  12. Yes I understand from previous threads it is big galaxy, We have a local dark site (20 mins drive) which is milky way dark and Antarctic cold. Saturday is forecast good and if it turns out to be so I will take the Proto over with me and check it out. I am going to have to invest in a midrange eyepiece between 17.3 and 31mm, I was hoping to get the Antares 2" x 1,7 barlow but after 7 weeks of waiting I cancelled the order. Shaun.

Hiya Mike, I will add some after the football. :-)

  14. I agree Stu, if I want to look at M31 I will use the T31 Nagler and my 9.25 as it fills the whole eyepiece. The Pronto is brilliant on stars, I am sure I split Sirius with last week, it was shimmering like crazy and I am not sure if it was the twinkling effect that fooled me. I can be observing within 5 minutes with both setups if I am honest, being able to grab and go with the Pronto is very handy to say the least.
  15. It is supposed to be clear from 6pm here tonight Stu, If this turns out to be the case I will give your suggestions a try later. :-) I have viewed the Double Double and Almach :-)
  16. Nice realistic & informative report Stu. Have you viewed Abireo in your TV's ? I f so how does they look ? I am quite looking forward to viewing this blue and orange double star in the Pronto, that's if I can find it without the GoTo :-) Shaun
  17. LoL I have heard of that before, thank you for the reminder, I will make sure I use the filter.
  18. I am really looking forward to taking delivery of the Herschel wedge, it doesn't help reading your experiences. It is a bit like being at a restaurant waiting for your food to arrive when everyone around you is eating :-) Shaun

    Televue Twins

Nice report Stu, very similar to the Pronto by the sounds of things, especially the description of the Double Cluster. I am very impressed with the views I get through it. The Pleiades and the Orion Nebula are equally as spectacular and I cant wait to see the cluster in Hercules and the Wild duck cluster later this year. Shaun
  20. I hope my Hershel wedge turns up tomorrow

Ay, what fun you're going to have with that mate. I just love using Lunt's Wedge and observing the Sun each morning, doing a little sketch, or what have you. I finally managed to find myself a cheap Continuum filter this week and what a difference this makes after using an 81A & 11 for so long to get that green light affect. Variable polariser is also a good move if you haven't got one :-) We should write up reports on our wedges :-)

    3. Pig

      Pig

I have a polariser coming with it :-) A write up will be a good idea, I wish I could draw as good as you but my skills are limited to matchstick men and I don't think that works with the sun :)

  21. Herschel wedge on the way :-)
