I could image in a bit more of a controlled fashion this morning which was a good thing. Seeing was intermittent with patches of brilliance followed by blobbyness in the avis but no cloud around today and processing was a touch easier too.

I took a couple of sets of images the first being with no barlow and the second with the X2 barlow and I think the barlowed images are better, it must be closer to the sweet spot for the sensor of the ASI120.

A quick run down of the process if anyone is interested. :)

For processing they were stacked in Autostakkert choosing the best 25%.

I found the best results for sharpening came by using Astra Image 3 first, definitely works the best with this camera/scope setup but the issue is finding the right amount of control to it because you can tell where it has over sharpened in places.

Then I take it over to Photoshop and hit it with a reduced amount of smart sharpen, problem with this is it does oversharpen certain details, mainly it introduces ringing in the umbra so before using smart sharpen I select the umbra with the magic wand tool, select inverse and then use smart sharpen.

From there it is just adjusting the brightness, contrast and colour to taste.

There is probably a bit of fine tuning to be done but I'm stoked by the results.

First up no barlow and using max ROI

Second a crop of the ROI to 960x960(I think) and no barlow. This upped the frame rate to 90ishfps

My dodgy scaling. :D

Finally the X2 Barlow

All in all quite happy, all taken with a Skywatcher 150PL and ASI120mm

Thanks guys for the nice comments! :)

It certainly does have a different character up close, the views on screen this morning at times where the best I have ever seen. Would of been great to replicate them.

Thanks all!

The weather has been pretty good today, hope it stays like it for tonight for Orionids.

Nice pics :) I enjoyed the "My dodgy scaling" one ! Always impressive

Thanks!

I'm not confident with the scaling method I use but thought I'd chuck it in anyway.
