Just found this website-excellent. I'm a new star gazer after just completing a 12 week evening course at Hurstmonceux Observatory in Sussex. I'm thinking of buying a Skywatcher Explorer 130PM; am I on the right track?

Is there anything else I need to get?

How about a Cloud Disperser 3000 with extra wide beam lol

But seriously, what you go for will depend on your budget.

A few essentials:

good star charts

a red torch

warm boots, hat, gloves, jacket, thermals etc etc

and lots of that patience stuff

The Skywatcher 130 is a good choice, but if you can afford the little bit extra for the 150, I would do that. The 150 comes with a much better mount, and gives you 30% extra light grasp.
