lizzardmanuk
I was looking for a starter scope and was going to buy the Meade ETX 80 prices vary but found ACE Cameras/astro in Yate had by far the best price went in had a full demo answered all my dumb questions without making feel a fool well done Ace:)

Capricorn
Not sure how good the built in barlow is, but if not great then simply don't put it in the path.Get you Lat and Long and the timezone is GMT, don't think they use 0:0 as SW's do - need to read the instructions. Easier to simply add your location as a new one.Stand it in a clearish place, make sure the scope base is level and then aim it North (Polaris) and level the tube. Tell it the time (DST is OFF). Pick Easy align. After that it will decide which stars (bet on Arcturus) to align on and slew to them, just centre each and that is more or less it. Alignment is easy, they have a wide field of view. From experience of a similar, if you try an eyepiece of less then 6mm it will have to be better then the cheaper plossl's. moonraker1234
Good luck with the ETX.Remember it is a good little scope, so a good eyepiece rather than generic Plossls would be an advantage too, and not much more expensive to buy!

BAZ Senior
Hi Lizard, welcome to the lounge.I bought a cheap Barlow to use in the eyepiece holder rather than keep cranking the focus back and forwards. Other than that it's a great grab and go scope. Enjoy!

Demonperformer
Welcome to the forum.I started with an ETX 80 and it provides some wonderful views. Be aware that the driven mount is not the best, that is what finally encouraged me to "upgrade".
