Discovery and External Fuel Tank

Recommended Posts

Hi

Here are three photos’ I managed to get of Discovery and the external fuel tank as they passed over Oxfordshire on Saturday morning. I watched the launch on NASA TV; I then knew I had about 17 minutes to get ready for the shot. When they appeared was surprising just how fast they were moving and the difference in colour was very obvious, the images are all ten second exposures and I'm guessing by seeing the track passing below the square of Pegasus in shot one they’re moving at about 8 degrees every ten seconds, much faster than the apparent motion of the ISS due to the low orbit. It was a beautiful morning and a fantastic sight well worth setting the alarm clock for.

Thanks for comments guys and I'll certainly consider sending them off to the Astro Mags Helen. Getting feed back like this makes all those times when it's cloudy or something goes wrong fade from the memory.
