What did the postman bring? V2

I tried to get a hold of a RASA 8 about 2 years ago but they had been withdrawn until a remedy to the mirror flare issue had been found. Well I still had the itch and a few weeks ago the postman (DPD) delivered this little gem. I've been enjoying fettling it to get ready for the darker nights but here is a first light, comprising 30 x 60s subs (no guiding). I'm pretty excited about the prospects of seeing what it can deliver but first the hard work of getting it properly dialled in. The weird stars were not that unexpected as the RASA designs are apparently very sensitive to accurate collimation, tilt and focus. I've yet to check collimation so that's the first step I guess. Here's to a good autumn/winter session :)

The detail for 30 mins is pretty cool.

Yes, that side of it is pleasing, I just hope sorting the stars doesn't become a chore.

Postie yesterday, but opened today while sat in the caravan, as away.

A used very fine book from @Stridor, the inner wrapping paper packaging made me laugh, told the Mrs it was a present.

I hope it will fire me up to widen my double star observing and more than the obvious few.

I was wondering how the posite found you in your caravan and then I re read your post. I'm being a bit slow today :)

In the early summer, the postie found us on our pitch on Anglesey, very impressed with that.

So no, your not being slow, I was unclear.
Postie was to home this time and I brought it with me.

Springer astronomy publications well worth a browse, some interesting titles. My favourite was Astro Physics is Easy - true until the last 3 chapters !

only thing I would say is small text size

Are the dots above the i's resolved or split? 😆

[Sorry. I'd be out observing, as it's clear for a change, but everything is wobbly so I'm at a loose end while I wait for / hope things improve.]

Picked this bad boy today. Got Optec Directsync focuser and Riccardi 0.75x reducer in the package as well, and a handle! Ebay find. Sometimes it's worth adding an item you want to the watchlist as sellers send very attractive offers every once in a while. I was looking for LZOS for awhile and universe was good to me today.

That should be a superb scope. I loved my 130 F/9.2 LZOS which I owned for 8 years. Best optics I've ever looked through I think 🙂

Lovely piece of glass. I may consider looking for one for myself in the 100 - 130mm range.

Not the postman, picked up by myself in a book rummage

A blast from the past dated 1978 and was possibly released a few years too late then as more things were becoming available.

Enjoyed it in a fit of nostalgia.
