my dad did refer to the micro binos that I have several of as opera glasses tho 😞

With binocular(s), at least there is no ambiguity in meaning.

In geometry lessons, students would sometimes ask me if they could "borrow a compass".
"Why, are you going orienteering?"

All, please let’s all remember that this thread is actually about whether we say binocular or a pair of binoculars, no more, no less, so let’s keep a reasonable sense of perspective about it.

To be honest I only watched it to appease my girlfirend, otherwise I wouldn’t have touched it with a bargepole!
