5% illuminated moon, Venus and a sun pillar

I went out with the UK's entire mosquito population last night to capture the conjunction of the 5% illuminated moon and Venus behind our local windmill.  When I got there, I also noticed my first ever sun pillar.

Great pictures, and a lovely foreground. I was out last night too and captured a not bad picture from my back garden, but nothing like your efforts.

They are a bit special Paul ! Very nice indeed.

May I suggest Avon " Skin so soft " for the Mosquitos ? Even if it didn't work you would at least end up smelling good

Lovely! I saw the same sun pillar on Saturday, but it was almost gone when I finally climbed the hill from where I observe. I took this faint one at least:

I also took some pictures of the moon and Venus, but haven't processed them yet.

That’s a beautiful image. It was a curious thing. I wonder if the same layer of ice crystals that have rise to the sun pillar also caused the NLC display from later on?
