Galloway Spring (February) 2020 Star Camp

Hi Damian,

Great to see the enduring sight of those hills in daylight.

The night images show what celestial glories are available from Kirkinner.  Yes, I can see some of the objects in the frame from down south, but the skies here have light pollution from London.

My back is currently killing me, so I need to stay inside in the heat.

I am having a whiskey to resurrect the memories of the campsite games room.

All the very best.

Just got the camera Paul so only a few photos

I have heard some pretty poor excuses for photographing the stars.......🙉🙈🙊

Hope you are still up there when we get there on Sunday afternoon, hopefully about 1330-1430hrs.🥃

Hi Derek. Unfortunately it looks like we'll miss each other as we'll be on our way home.

It's been good break but well blustery. Here's a couple more photos from last night.

It was quite clear for about 3hrs but the wind was around the 50mph mark so had it low on the caravan decking.

It's pretty much the same tonight except complete cloud cover.

Visited the mull of Galloway lighthouse today, scotlands most southerly point.

The storm winds were at full strength whipping up a fair sea swell.

Lighthouse is a testament to Victorian engineering

Very similar in design to a lot around the shores of scotland.

We managed to get to the top of the peak of benyellary 2350ft but decided this was as far as we'd go. Storm Ellen's winds were in full force on the peak (about 80mph!!!) and it was just too risky to continue. Views were stunning.

The snow covered peak of merrick was probably another half a mile away along the ridge line. Just out of grasp this time

About 5mins after this shot a hailstorm hit and it was like being shot blasted!!

We made our way back down off the tops back on the lee side and the winds quickly subsided.

As always stunning scenery and epic weather.

Hi Damian,

Great shots of Merrick, I have been to the top on numerous occasions and on a clear day you can see quite a distance, Isle of Man, Lake District, Mountains of Mourne and your feet.I have been there when We could hardly see anything with the driving sleet in a very strong wind. The last time I tried I only got up to the top of Benyellary when I ran out of puff!

Have a safe trip home.

Just got here. Sun is out but a bit windy. Too much for Astro pics.

It looks lovely and calm, are there many others staying this week?

Hoping to book a van for next month in the hope that Sandra will be able to walk without pain by then.
