cotterless45
Wreaths of horrible cloud all around . Above , one of those nights when you can count the stars on a few hands . However , Saturn was in the south with some detail. Decided to sit it out , "here's to waiting ". Tried some binaries , and the seeing was ultra stable. Getting down just above 1". Looking north gave a semi useful sky ( dark , but few stars) . As soon as I focussed at x30, the very. Bright Comet Panstarrs C/2017 S3 appeared . At x50 the contrast was better, just amazed at how high it was . Just love these visitors to our sky , especially the great outburst making this so visible. https://www.heavens-above.com/comet.aspx?cid=C%2F2017 S3&lat=0&lng=0&loc=Unspecified&alt=0&tz=UCT&cul=en Sat and enjoyed the view before Mars appeared. Second pass -almost overhead of the ISS. Mars was bright , then it blinked out in the clouds to the south. Came back for dome fleeting glances, nothing but the bright disc at x200. Keep trying, viewers , but do find the Comet . You too can walk around with a silly grin , or as SWMBO puts it "what have you bought now ?". What a view under Clear Skies ! Nick. michael.h.f.wilkinson
Nice report and sketch. I hope to catch this comet tonight. Thanks for the link too, as the finder chart on the Skyhound Comet Chasing page give a 404 error.

Knighty2112
Nice report Nick. Will have a look for Panstars as soon as I get the next opportunity. Was out looking at the moon and Jupiter last night with a new (to me anyway) small ‘frac. Saturn was murky but seeable. Also did a nice split on the double double pushing the scope to its max probably with a 2x Barlow and a 5mm EP. Seeing was nice and steady. Other than that there were not many stars on show.
