New APM 12.5mm 90 degree 23mm eye relief

Long eye relief (20mm) and widefield (90 degrees+) seems a tricky combination - I’m only aware of the ES 92s (which I really like)

However just seen that APM are launching a new range of 90 degree eyepieces with 23mm of eyerelief. Initially there will be 12.5mm and 18.75mm (v similar to ES infuriating!) 

But hopefully may be a 26mm appearing in due course. The other focal lengths in the ES 92 haven’t appeared yet so hopefully this new range from APM will give a suitable alternative.

I have the 20mm 2 inch barrel one.

Have you verified the usable eye relief via flashlight (torch?) projection?  The 30mm eye lens would indicate more like a 74 degree AFOV at 20mm of eye relief or 18mm of eye relief with an 80 degree AFOV.

Well Mike, I'm not that silly (or rich enough)  so it won't be me :laughing4:.

The eye relief doesn't look too clever going by the pics, especially for glass wearers - I'm glad I won't be wanting them :smile:.

The Takahashi 90° came in last but one in this review of six 10mm eyepieces:

Yeah.Two Tele Vues coming top. Surprise surprise. Not. Partisan influence maybe ;)

Going on my 17.5mm Nikon SW, I think their 10mm would be better performance as well. But also not so high profile/well known.

The test looks impressive with lots of optical measurement, but how much do the scores matter? It was discussed a year ago, I think it raised more questions than it answers:

Mike, luckily the taks don’t have enough eye relief for me. ? 

I’m very happy with my ES 92 12mm and 17mm so won’t be looking at the apms either. Hopefully apm or ES will issue other focal lengths soon.

TV Ethos was second best.

I'm not surprised the LVW came top of the mid section, but am that it was beaten by the XW14mm. With respect to the latter scoring 1 point over an Ethos, the criteria for former was the Moon, while latter, the sky.

Both specialise then, XW have much better eye relief, giving it a close victory. So maybe the middle ground is where, of all brands. Competition was fiercest.

Pity no ES eps in either test.

Well, there were no ES eyepieces in 2008 and possible 2009, but there were by 2010.  ES as a company started in 2008.  It was mainly an astronomy marketing company until JOC first partnered with them in 2010 and later bought the controlling share of it (probably by 2013 when they bought Meade as well).

Fair point. Maybe they had not made it as far as France though ?

Probably not, since it was started in the US.  Were they even in the UK in 2011 or 2012?

From my own experience, I know I have owned my mushroom top 30mm ES-82 since at least the summer of 2012 when they were closing them out for $220 in favor of the current design that looks more like the 31mm Nagler T5.  Clearly, it was considered old in the US by 2012 if it was on clearance here.
