When I imaged the Mercury transit a while back I missed 1st contact and only managed a cloud effected 2nd contact shot. I was was fairly irritated at the time, but looking back it has given me a good recorded of the event and its difficulties.

I also would have preferred clear blue skies though

Good catch. I caught a brief glimpse through the camera view finder this morning but by the time I had adjusted the focus it was gone. We have thunder, lightning, rain and hail now!
