First solar imaging session with a DSLR... but no sunspots

My first solar imaging session, please give any advice and comments,

Think you were just unlucky, apparently it's the first day in 4 1/2 years that there have been no sunspots on view.

great first go mate, id put my camera mode to AV, and use the exp comp to knock the brightness down, then you should beable to catch some detail mate. well done.charl.

Currently there are indeed no spots visible, but I think your images are overexposed, so they wouldn't easily appear.

And get the ISO down to the least sensitive - 100 on my camera.  You will soon get the hang of it.  Look here: http://www.solen.info/solar/  to get an up to date view of what you should be seeing (scroll down to find the white light image).  Hopefully there will be a few spots around for you to be able to nail the art of focussing.

Ah! Get your exposure down to at least 1/2000sec as a starting point - you may need to go lower (ie shorter).

Thanks for the first image.  You got lots of good advice above, especially regarding the overexposure.

I'll throw in that you might consider a crop when you are finished.  It will give your image a "finished" look.
