The large sensor of my new Moravian G4-16000 camera has enabled me to capture all of the California Nebula in one frame - sure beats having to do a mosaic :-)

Scope: Televue NP127is @ 660mm f/l

CCD: Moravian G4-16000

Mount: 10-Micron GM2000HPS

Guide: unguided

Filters: Chroma 3nM Ha

Data: 8 x 900s

That's great Chris - Now you're just showing off :D :D :D

Thanks Sara!  it's been a tough struggle to get here - and not finished with the problems yet either. The 490EX is plug 'n play, this one I beat with a stick to make it work :-)

It seems the link I provided to the full-res image doesn't work.. Maybe this will

Beautiful. Very nice gentle processing. However, that ain't all of it. I promise you'd find more if you looked either side of this image...  :BangHead:

The DS imager's work is never done...

 lly

Thanks Olly, the fog last night helped smooth the image out :-)  Actually, I did notice faint stuff going off frame (and this is a crop) but if anyone mentions the work 'mosaic' I'll cry.

Very nicely worked Chris, beautiful.

How did you find the sensitivity of the new camera?

Thanks Martin. The sensitivity seems to be good, it is supposed to be a bit less than the 490EX I'm so used to using and yet it's not at all noticeable. Perhaps that is because of the big (comparatively) pixels. I use the same exposure times for autofocus and plate solving (for ModelMaker). I would need to do a proper evaluation of ADU and histogram levels to know, but from a purely practical standpoint I can use the same exposure times for my sub as before. With just a handfull of OIII and SII subs captured (but many Ha subs) it seems the Chroma filters are halo-free :-) That was a worry for me until confirmed.

That huge acreage of chip must be lovely. What's the sub download speed like (sorry about the questions!)

It's lovely if you can get the thing orthogonal to the light cone ;-) This one isn't (note the distortion bottom-right). I will need to either shim it or use a focuser tilt-plate to correct it.

Sub download is 23 seconds at full resolution, which is a little bit faster than Moravian quote (and this is 'low-noise' mode rather than 'fast-mode'). Fast readout is useful for focussing or plate solving during mount modelling, which I do at 2x2 binning to increase speed even more. Without that it would be painfully slow. Each 1x1 file 32Mb in size so you need plenty of memory.
