LOOK AT SUN NOW - DETACHED PROM

There is a beautiful detached prom roughly off the N limb of the Sun, shaped like a big root, at least to me! The very bottome of it is caught on the present GONG pics, it alerted me but there is so much more to see not shown on GONG.

The real thing is far better than my picture, far more intricate and impressive.

Still, thanks for posting the pic Paul, it gives us the idea of whats happening behind the cloud

I'll have to try a bit if afocal with my little Lunt, I think the pics quite good!

3.48pm just had another glimpse in another cloud break.  It now looks like a large reversed letter 'C' and is a bit fainter than it was.  That's the orientation in the PST of course.

Thanks Chris. It's well worth a try, at least doesn't cost anything to experiment.  I wish someone else had seen it and taken a rather better image though, mine doesn't really do it justice.

Thanks for the heads up, think I was too late for the detached prom but there's a gorgeous double arch at the 4 o'clock position.

Just had what will be my final view at 4.35pm.  Now only a faint horizontal remnant of it's former self. At first I thought it had gone completely. A nice exciting interlude though.

Its a bit late but I just got a break in the clouds and the sun is still looking good, some nice prom activity in the north and I guess these are the remnants of the detachment or what has been sucked back in

Managed 30 minutes about 16.00 hrs here. Lots of activity and the detached prom remnants nicely visible. Thanks for the heads up Paul
