EQMOD download

Recommended Posts

Hi, I downloaded eqmod from sourceforge to try and learn about it before I get an astroeq box. The trouble is when I open it the interface just keeps coming and going on the screen. It starts then disappears then comes on again only to go again. I have a windows pc running xp sp3. Has anyone else had this problem or can you shed some light on it for me please.

regards....Geoff

Yes - it's a well known feature due to EQMOD not finding an appropriate response from the hardware it's expecting to connect to. In my case for instance I forgot to plug in my AstroEQ mains adapter for solar white light this morning, I saw exactly that phenomenon until I powered up the unit.

Read up the PDF handbook and you may find you can set up a mount simulator option whilst you wait for the AstroEQ to arrive.

Have a read at this   http://ascom-standards.org/

Then download the platform from here - the box at the right hand side of the page  http://ascom-standards.org/Downloads/Index.htm

You will need the latest version of Microsoft framework so maybe run windows update first or go to the Control panel and make sure the framework is enabled.

As Peter says, you have to use the Simulator version if you don't have a mount connected, otherwise Ascom will keep trying to connect/disconnect to a non-existant device.

It is a driver, not a software suite.

EQMOD relies on the ASCOM platform and according to the version history (http://ascom-standards.org/Help/Platform/Index.html) Version 6.1 SP1 is Windows 8 compatible. However ..... the EQMOD software does not specifically say it supports Windows 8 (http://welshdragoncomputing.ca/eqmod/doku.php?id=software) only up to VIsta (using Windows XP compatibility mode) - so probably works OK on Windows 7.

If Windows version is an issue and your PC CPU can run Virtualisation I would suggest getting Virtual Box (free) and installing XP to that.

Hope this helps.
