Hi, Andy, and a warm welcome to SGL! As others have said, there are a number of reasons why Mars was not clear - focus, scope not cooled, slighly out of collimation - but also to take into consideration is the air turbulance and 'seeing' quality. On two seperate evenings last week I focused on Mars. The first time, no matter how long I was at the scope, it remained a murky 'blob'! The second siting was clear and the planet showed detail with little effort on my part. Let the scope cool, check focus and colimation - but also spend time at the eyepiece and sometimes the detail will emerge - sometimes not!

Hope that helps,

Martin
