Comet Ison, Mars and Regulus 15-10-13

Recommended Posts

Drove out to my dark sky site on a disused airfield this morning with the cloud and fog doing a good job of convincing me I was absolutely mad, but being optimistic eventually prevailed over misty optics and I had a ten minute hazy break to grab the shot. The wide field shot of Ison, Mars and Regulus actually benefitted from the mist by giving a nice colourful glow to the brighter objects. Comet Ison has developed a nice tail since I last imaged it and was considerably brighter than I expected it to be so it's looking like it might be back on track to thrill us in December.

Thank you

I used my Takahashi FSQ85 with a modded Canon 600D, due to the conditions it was only a rudimentary polar alignment and no time to set up auto guiding, ten frames of 60 seconds @3200 iso.

Here' a crop of the Comet.

Thats a corker. Widefield really can be every bit as interesting and beautiful as deepsky imaging and this shows it. Really lovely composition, nice colours. Love it. Was Tak at its full native 450mm? if so you did well for that focul length and a very basic polar allignment.
