Are the Mey observing chairs collapsable? I really do want to get one, but mainly for going in the car to dark sky sites and I have a teeny tiny car, and once my scope is in, there isn't any room for anything else!

Hey Rockrae, get yourself one of these here as an alternative if price is an issue http://www.amazon.co...s=ironing chair The Mey chair does look great but at nearly five times the price, so it should.

I have the alternative "multi seat" and it works just fine for me. The only thing to be aware of is the chair base isn't the sturdiest and so I replaced the chipboard base with 20mm plywood and its solid an a rock now. Oh and the space it takes is negligable.

can live without telrad and rigel, have both and don't use either anymore - just use the supplied straight through finders still.

I guess I couldn't live without my Mey stool, or a stool of some kind. Dobs don't work so well without a height adjustable seat.

I've tried 2 different ironing chairs - both were rubbish! Spent (wasted £50) so far. I'd rather just buy something that I know will work without having to faff around modifying it!

I'm using a normal adjustable stool -- you simply hit the jack and up or down you go...simples!

Can't live without clear skies.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned that...

Sounds like a great accessory... where can I buy one?. Assuming standard EPs count as an essential, I'd pretty much have to say my trusty old Cheshire. To say I'd be lost without it is an understatement.

They aren't collapsable, take up a lot of space and are relatively expensive. I bought mine as a luxury but after owning realise it as a necessity.

Transport issues would be a problem with a small car. I drive a van so don't have that problem.

I'm not allowed to do any DIY! I'm the clumsiet person on the planet!

When we were renovating our house, I managed to put my entire leg through the floorboards of our bedroom, smashed 3 mirrors and pictures when they fell off the wall (I put them up), and nearly took my eye out when dismantling some built in shelves. I'm not kidding.

That observing chair looks neat, but I haven't got the tools or skill...

When setting up in the middle of nowhere the one essential accessory is my red head torch I'm absolutely stuffed without it, regarding the least useful it's probably a spirit level, a complete waste of time if your going to polar align anyway.
