Finally, my first DSO

Hello all

After having most of my equipment for about a year I have finally gotton it all sorted and done my first DSO (of M42...what else!)

orion10March.jpg

Unguided 80ed on a HEQ5. 10 x 30sec lights and darks. .DSS and then CS5.

I am pretty happy with it concidering a fullish moon. I need to somehow add my stacked image of the core to this and then practise big time on my prcessing skills.

Any advice and criticism are most welcomed.:)

Thanks for looking

Jeremy

That's awesome for your first go. I like the first one better than the seconfd one because there's a bit more detail. Excellent image and well done for taking the plunge!:)

That is quite brilliant :D:):hello2:

I seem to be well below the bottom of the learning curve :hello2: I somehow got M42 in the FOV a while back but not managed it since :D I'm now going for a wider field view.

Well done. In the second one the Trapezium region has lost its colour. The link to the multi exposure tutorial will give you ideas for the future.

RGB imaging in moonlight is not something I would ever do myself but you have done remarkablly well here.

Thanks for the comments and recommendations everyone.

Thanks bizibilder for the link and Olly for the advice. I will experiment with different exposure times and have a go at that tutorial.

Cheers

What a great image for your first go really good. If you want some more tips on processing in photoshop I have put together a set of video tutorials that cover pretty much all you need it might be useful to you. Learning about hide all layers is a very useful for boosting colours and many others parts aspects of processing.

Photoshop tutorial set here..
