Any recommendation on websites to buy my first telescope?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy my first telescope and after a lot of researching I decided to go for the Skywatcher Skymax 127mm Synscan AZ goto.

My question relates to where to buy it from? Could anyone recommend a good supplier that are excellent on service and price? Thanks. DD.

Have you decided on a scope and mount you want to buy ???

If not i found it a great help to actually go and look at some scopes and mounts in a local shop if you have one near, you will learn a lot from a reputable dealer, eg..forget ARGOS and the like they know nothing :p

i bought mine from flo and cannot speak highly enough of the service i got. all emails answered very quickly and they kept me informed on the purchase. ordered about 6.00pm on a friday and delivered by tuesday afternoon. i have no ties with them and have no reason for recomending them other than the fact that they provided me with good service. (that should get me a few ep's) lol.

Welcome. go to first light optics. They delivered all my mak127 stuff within three days. Excellent customer service from martin. Good price to you may also want to invest in 3 in 1 power and a 32mm gso plossi for wide views. Oh and lots of patience!

I have bought the very same scope from FLO.. I have no connections to them in anyway, other than I am a very happy customer...

Having had a good look around I found them the cheapest.

Having emailed them and got told there was a 3 to 4 day delay i ordered my scope on the Monday evening, Wednesday lunch time it was delivered, was all boxed up so nothing could move or get broken in transit.

My local shop offered the same scope but was about £60 more expensive, however they did offer a FULL money back refund if you upgraded to a bigger scope in the first year, which TBH was a very good selling point, but in the end I went with FLO and I am very glad I did... Service is second to none..

Cheers

Paul

I know there are a bunch of good UK online dealers, but... personally, for my first telescope, I'd visit a shop. Just make sure its a good one. For more detail on my reasoning see this.

Ultimately yes this is the best option if available to you.

That way you can view the physical size of the telescope and ask the proprietor how to set it up etc :p

I just bought my first telescope (Skywatcher Skyliner 250px) from Rother Valley Optics. I found the chaps helpful on the phone, I ordered it last Monday and it was with me by Thursday. Very pleased.

I can personally recommend:

FLO

Telescopes and Binoculars from Green Witch of Cambridge, the Astronomy Specialists

Harrison Telescopes - Astronomy Telescopes and Binoculars for Stargazing

All of these will provide excellent advice on the product you are looking at, and will do their best to ensure you get a product that will suit your needs rather than line their pockets.
