Hello everybody. Having enjoyed many stargazing nights as a youngster with my dad, I've recently got the urge to start again. I've not decided on what equipment to buy yet, and hopefully some of you fine people can guide me in the right direction. Looking forward to posting on here and widening my knowledge of our surroundings.

Neil.

Hi Neil and welcome to the forum. The main thing is t take your time, no rush the stars aren't going anywhere! Local astro clubs and observing groups will provide you with the most effective research because they will allow you to look through some kit - which is what it is all about! All the specifications, be it magnification and aperture, will not mean a thing unless you have something to hang these measurements from, and that can only be gained from observing the night sky using different types and sizes of scopes. You picked the best time of year especially with the BBC's Stargazing Live programme and the many events that are being planned to co-ordinate with it. Take full advantage and you will arrive at the best solution to suit your budget.

Clear skies for your research.

James
