Grooved wheels.

Ive got some 2" stainless steel angle stashed at work to upgrade the track on my obsy, has anybody come across any cheap grooved wheels? Ive done the usual googling but what Ive found is silly prices An alternative suggested by one of the engineers at work is to put the current 2" solid nylon wheels in a lathe and cut a groove in it, sounds plausable but Im not sure whether this would weaken the wheels and split them.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I have some nylon wheels and they wouldn't take much of a groove without weakening them.

You could use 2 castors at a 90 degree angle, similar to this:

That's feasible or you could use two wheels side by side in parallel.

good point. could you use the stainless angle as a flat bearing surface and then teflon pads to slide on?

you could then use a pulley to let down and bring back?

Hi, George could you not use 2 Large Bearings with a spacer in between or a Bearing and a spacer with a guide plate and teflon pads ,

I like yesyes and Ponytales ideas, in fact we have a shed load of redundent boxed bearings here, Im off to try an idea

I have used this method of tracking for smaller prodjects, and I see no reason why it can't be scaled up.

I was contemplating it for my sliding roof.
