  1. I spend an inordinate amount of time on the planets to coax out the maximum amount of detail. Warm clothing and a seated position helps tremendously with longer periods at the eyepiece. Jupiter is my favourite planet as the surface details change so quickly.
  2. My offer to collimate it for you the conventional way and talk you through each step still stands. I will also show you how to collimate it with a laser. I am roughly 30 minutes away from you. The decision is yours. I myself use a concentre , cheshire and cap to set everything up correctly and then a Hotech laser everytime thereafter. The laser is fantastic for checking before each session.
  3. You could use the inner tube of a leather football and inflate it inside the dented tube. This works for the majority of dents
  4. Not at all Wes. He passed away many years ago but his memory still lives on in me, hence the name bosun. Regards Ian
  5. Not at all. My father was a Bosun in the Royal Navy for many years and after he passed away I used the name bosun as my nom de plume for the internet.
  6. Hi there. Looks like you are really struggling there. I live in Oxford and not too far from you so if you are ever passing I would be only too happy to collimate your scope and talk you through the steps. Good advice from @wookie1965.
  7. Baader Morpheus 6.5mm is one of the sharpest in the set. Fantastic eyepiece with tons of eye relief and also very comfortable.
  8. DPD dropped off an ES 2x extender and a Baader clicklock for the new scope. STILL waiting for first light ☁️🌩🌧.
  9. Try placing a clean white T shirt over the objective then the light panel. You can then set your light panel to the best illumination. This helped a great deal for me.
  10. Looking at the reports etc it seems like this dismal weather is all over the UK. It’s been weeks now since I’ve been able to glimpse a clear sky. I’m still waiting for first light with my new scope, but I guess we’ll all just have to grin and bear it 😔.
  11. Looks like he has tried to tighten the two outer screws with the latitude bolt screwed too far in causing the break. As stated easy to replace with a piece of flat bar drilled and tapped.
  12. Updated Sharpcap and looking forward to giving the new features a spin.
  13. You need the 12" to place the telrad in-between the focuser and RACI. I am unsure if the 10" would provide enough space either. When I owned the 8" I had to mount the telrad on the other side of the RACI.
  14. I’ll have a look at the new update for planetary live stacking when the clouds eventually clear. I do like the tried and tested process though. This was my third ever image of Jupiter with a 6” Maksutov.
  15. That’s where I set my balance point as well which as you say works for a standard eyepiece. I had a Telrad and Starsense unit on mine which most definitely required the counterweight.
  16. I had both my 8” and 12” SL dobsonian scopes set at the maximum adjustment of the fulcrum for rear heavy and I still required a movable counterweight. I simply moved the counterweight to compensate for whatever weight I put on the front.
  17. I bought one years ago and I’ve never used it. I can enjoy viewing the full moon without any filter whatsoever. Probably due to mainly using high magnification I reckon. I will have to dig it out and try it on the moon at low magnification.
  18. No not at all Wes. I was simply trying to lead you to the thread that had already discussed the scopes. If you sensed this was impolite then I apologise. No hard feelings from myself in any way. Regards, Ian.
  19. My first ever scope was a 4" reflector on a ramshackle alt/az mount. My first look at the moon and the planets was all the gratification I needed for me to begin a life long love affair. I do agree that the recent generations seem to require a bit more. Perhaps all the technology in todays society has something to do with it.
  20. You can easily do EAA and short exposure AP with a dobsonian on an EQ platform.
