  1. I have also used this adapter successfully in the past.
  2. I think it’s due to the SW tensioners having a small surface area whereas the SL are about 3.5” in diameter causing more stiction.
  3. They do. I found that tightening them to achieve balance when front loaded caused stiction on the alt axis.
  4. That makes a lot of sense. You've planted a seed now 🤔.
  5. I had both my SL dobsonian scopes adjusted on the fulcrum positioner to maximise the rear weight and I still required the magnet(s). I also had a Starsense unit fitted though. One without the Starsense and two with it and my phone.
  6. You don't really need strips if the magnet has a strong enough pull allowing you to wrap it in fabric and it will stick solidly to the tube of the scope. The ones I linked to work great. One would be enough for an 8".
  7. Nice little mod there John. I just used two strips of black adhesive draught excluder on the bottom of my 12". Worked well. Not as nice as yours though.
  8. Sorry, there you go 👇. Ferrite Pot Magnet for Arts, Crafts, Model Making, DIY, Hobbies, Office, and Home - 100mm dia x 22mm thick x 11mm hole - 68kg Pull https://amzn.eu/d/gTojxHc
  9. I have always used these. https://amzn.eu/d/gTojxHc.. I used one on my 8" and sometimes two on my 12". I just wrapped them in fabric to protect the tube. I don't like having to tighten the tensioners too much as it can cause a lot of stiction in the alt movement. I've just bought another two for my new 10" as I included the previously owned ones when I sold the scopes.
  10. I always do. I've got several little bags of the springs I've upgraded as well as a bag of heavier gauge springs. It was good to see that this wasn't required with my new 10" Flexitube go to dobsonian. Maybe they're catching on.
  11. I just removed the primary mirror on my new scope which is necessary to replace the primary collimation springs. Once I had the mirror out of the cell I discovered that the existing primary springs were actually heavier gauge and stronger than the springs I was intending to upgrade with! I’m pleased to see this now in production dobsonians. The Stella Lyra(12”) i have previously owned had really weak springs which allowed the mirror to shift. It was easier to replace them on the SL though as you could do it with the mirror in place on the scope. Also fitted Bobs knobs on the secondary.
  12. For the planets you should consider using a barlow lens as 650mm focal length isn't really enough for the planets. Just place the barlow in your focuser and the webcam into the barlow.
  13. A reflector requires the most maintenance of all the telescope types IMO. A very low to virtually no maintenance would be the refractor telescope/ Maksutov design. Reflectors require to be collimated often or at least checked frequently to ensure they are operating optimally. I would personally go for a refractor on an alt/az mount. A small Maksutov would be a good choice for you as well knowing that you can store it in the shed. Maksutov scopes have a cool down time and with storing it in the shed takes you half way there.
  14. Don't they contradict each other?
  15. I'll be the odd one out here. I didn't get on with the Svbony 3-8 zoom eyepiece. I don't fault it optically at all and found the views to be clear and sharp. I just can't observe comfortably with relatively short eye relief and small eye lenses anymore. I think I have just got too comfortable with both of these attributes being larger. That's why I sold all my orthos and short focal length plossl's
  16. All you will be able to really do with a webcam is to take short videos of the planets and moon and stack them in Autostakkert. You can then process them in Registax 6 for your final images.
  17. The OP hasn't got access to the classifieds yet. Pity
  18. Another thumbs up for the Baader zoom and I also bought it with the barlow but only used the barlow once or twice. For convenience a zoom is great for ease of use.
  19. Some lovely pieces of glass in those cases. I’m too frightened to try an Ethos incase I fall under their spell.
  20. Are you sure about +be being west of Greenwich? The map says the opposite as does my GPS app. I don’t know what difference this would make if any. It’s my OCD sorry.
  21. My main observing case. My other case contains barlows, plossl’s and a few orthos.
  22. I used to own the C8 on the SE mount and found that it vibrated like a tumble dryer at high magnification. I fitted an electric focuser motor to compensate for this. Needless to say I sold both.
