  1. Ha ha. I use it to transport everything outside, mount, tripod pillar extension, eyepiece cases etc etc. Saves me repeat journeys indoors. I also enjoyed our chat yesterday. I'm still eyeing a 180 🙄.
  2. He has stated this on many of his videos that he is sponsored by Askar.
  3. Just in after a successful first light with the ED102S and HEQ5. Captured a load of SER's of Jupiter with the 250 go to dobsonian, also some in IR. Then spent the rest of the night doing visual with the Vixen. The scope is excellent and sharp. I wish it had a dual speed focuser though. I'll do a report tomorrow as I haven't even eaten yet 🙄.
  4. Or you can lay your mirror on a sheet of white paper and draw around the outline of the mirror. Cut out the circle and fold it over on itself twice. Where the creases converge is the centre of your mirror. Poke a pinhole through it, place on the mirror and mark the mirror through the pinhole
  5. Out again! This time with both setups. Proper first light (🤞) for the Vixen ED102S and HEQ5 but I just couldn’t leave out another opportunity to image Jupiter again.
  6. All Skymax 127's have collimation screws. It's the 102 that has both types.
  7. How can a helicopter fly in a vacuum? 🤔.
  8. If you wait until July 2033 you would be able to see it with no moons visible. @Nik271's thread "Moonless Jupiter" details this rare event.
  9. Hi Frank 👋, a warm welcome to SGL.
  10. You will benefit from having go to with the 127 otherwise the planets will quickly move out of the FOV. I found that the 127 is a good scope for the planets and lunar observing as well as planetary nebulae. I used one for an entire year and never ran out of targets to view.
  11. Lovely images. I slightly prefer the top image but both are fantastic captures.
  12. Easily prevented by simply placing a bar stool cover fitted over the primary mirror end and one on the top as well if you have a loose fitting cap.
  13. Nothing like the A4 one I bought. All the brightness settings showed an even white screen.
  14. Using a well aligned RDF on the scope while the mount is in the home position gets Polaris in the polar scope every time for me. Just ensure that you have the home position set properly.
  15. Oh no! Not another thing to learn 🙄🤣. Lovely image Kostas.
  16. Lovely scope Stu. I am considering buying one for myself for the planets next apparition. What are you going to mount it on?
  17. I personally don’t think that the weight of XW or Morpheus eyepieces would be any hindrance whatsoever on my travels.
  18. I have owned and sold two of them. I can't get on with my face pressed against the eyepiece. I have to be comfortable when viewing the planets for any amount of time. Give me a large eye lens and 70°+ FOV with at least 18-22mm eye relief anyday. I'm more than happy to be the odd one out in this case. Optically though the SV 3-8mm zoom is great.
  19. I always set my secondary mirror with a concenter(concentre) to the purists out there. This makes sure it's correctly centered in the focuser tube and that the tilt is correct. The primary is then a piece of cake. Doing it this way allows my Hotech 2" laser, Cheshire sight tube and collimation cap to all agree. Once done I only need to check the primary before each session.
  20. What an ingenious way to solve this problem. I can remember when first starting out both my slo mo cables dropping off more than lemmings.
  21. Thanks to this thread I now fully understand why people call astrophotography " The dark arts".
  22. Another 👍 for the Opticron Imagic 7x50's. Nice and light and easily hand held.
  23. Attempted first light on the Vixen ED102 and first use of the HEQ5. Only managed minutes on the moon before I was clouded out. Maybe next time.
  24. It was clear skies here in Oxford so I set up my HEQ5 and Vixen ED102 for its first light. Immediately after setting up the clouds rolled in completely filling the sky. I only managed a few minutes on the moon before it was obscured. Brought everything back indoors and ten minutes later the clouds completely departed. Sods law strikes again.
